| Quote: DannyT "Frano played on the wing to get used to our structures/the game and moved inside eventually. There’s a danger we can try and be too clever with things but the game’s changed and if we can get away with a fast half back spending a bit of time on the wing I’m not dead against it.'"
Jai Field will be the fastest player in sl. We could do a lot worse than have him on the wing for cover if it was needed.

| Defending on the wing is an art positionally and it tends to not transfer to many other positions except perhaps centre.
It has nothing to do with pace.
We are not playing schoolboy rugby.
This is the highest level of the game in this country.
If you put Field on the wing they would be putting a huge target on his head.
You only need to see how teams target Grace and Johnston 2 fliers in defence. To be fair Grace has improved this year particularly but it’s taken a 4 years? Johnstone is still positionally awful in defence.
Field has 0 game experience on the wing.
Every team would direct everything down that side, runs, kicks, everything.
I don’t believe it is an option for 1 second.

Nah I just used to wave my arms about and get in the way until the centre got across

Probably same people who said French should play 6 last year. When his best positions are obviously full back or wing.

| Field was reserve 6 at Paramatta. He will be reserve 6 at Wigan with Tommy playing right and jackson playing left. Harry smith is the back up for the left hand side. Hopefully Field plays right as otherwise we will have 3 left sided halves. I honestly dont see him getting much game time unless he takes smiths bench spot which means we will have a potentially unsettled want away half on our hands.

| Lets be totally honest we only signed Field as French told the club he wanted to return home and Field looked an adequate replacement all be it i don't know loads about the kid. Looks quick on his highlight reels but i have never seen a highlight reel where said player looks poor. Once French made it clear he would be happy to stay then it was a no brainer to keep him. Realistically if Field does the business then French moving to the wing would be a viable option to me. Obviously that depends on how good Field is and where Dom and Marshy are up to. Its likely neither will start the season off so Bibby rightfully takes one spot and ??? takes the other.
Not been as excited about a season in a while to be honest, some great addition to the squad with more to follow. Just hope come March were unlocked from our cells to be able to attend the games.

| Is Manfredi's a bad one ? I thought it was just a clean out and was touch and go for the GF ?
If we are desperate for a winger at the start of next season then moving French there seems the obvious choice, we know he can play there at a high level and we've got fullback cover.

| Interesting stat on Jake Bibby released today for those who question his pace (and I’ve been one). He clocked the 4th highest speed across the whole league in one game, with just Handley, Ashton and Senior clicking faster speeds. Amazing Grace, French, Marshall etc all came out below him.
It doesn’t mean he’s a flier by any stretch but he can’t be slow if he can get up to that pace.

I thought Bretherton now plays centre? He did when I last watched Toulouse.

I've just checked and neither of us are right actually, they started him at second row in the few Championship games we got this year. Still innovative for a big second rower to pop up on the wing on a specific play I think.

I remember from The NRL, a fair number of years ago, that the modern winger was redundant and that second rowers should be used out wide instead. It goes to show that what goes around comes around.

Nobody was doing the clocking! The speed readings were taken from the GPS data from the tracking devices players are required to wear and is verified independently.

Isn't this the same Ratu Naulago who was chased down by Tony Clubb last season?
See, the plan of sticking Clubb on the wing makes perfect sense!
