See above.
I have no idea if Wigan had a problem with Leeds slowing down the ruck. Personally, I had no problem whatsoever.

Please point out where I said it was 'a skilless way to cheat the opposition' or indeed anything remotely similar. In fact I said the exact opposite ('being able to play at the margins is what makes a good team great' and 'I applaud Leeds for being able to do so') However, as Pemps points out quite succinctly, one set of fans 'good technique' is the opposition fans 'foul play'. We lose many things when O'Loughlin is out but I've always maintained that one of the most important is his unrivalled ability to control the speed of the play the ball. Guess what though? Opposition fans complain that he 'gets away with holding down' and 'is a cheat'.. QED
On a personal note, you need to wind your neck in mate. I strongly object to being spoken down to in the way you seem to have taken to recently. I've been a Wigan supporter for well over 20 years and a season ticket holder for most of that. I certainly don't need you to condescendingly explain the basics of the game. Did you think you think you were giving some great insight or something? I suggest that, before you post your lols and great insights in future, you actually learn to read and, more importantly, understand the posts you're answering to. ''More adept at holding down' was a compliment and nowhere did I suggest that it was skilless or outside the rules. Moreover, nowhere was there any intimation that I didn't understand the principles involved. I certainly didn't require your great insight into one of the most basic aspects of the game; less so delivered in the condescending way you chose to. Now, if you'd just explain what that ball-thingy is that the players seem to carry I'd be most grateful
tl;dr

Wigan are very good at it.
One round the legs, 2 take the upper body to hold them upwright and wrestle, giving the defensive line time to set, then they twist and put the attacker on his back, then move off 1 by 1, slowing the PTB down massively. Textbook.
That's not a criticism of wigan, it's excellent technique.

| A good coach can see in the rules/laws things that others cannot. I often think that they need to be as good a lawyer as a coach. Any lawyer will tell you that depending on the spirit of a law will always be challenged and found wanting. We then change the law/rule/instruction and the whole process starts again.

| On another matter I am really looking forward to the game. Looking at the squad I realise that no one really expects us to win but I still expect every man in cherry and white to front up.

| Dudson has got to stop the late push/shoulder to the back. That is going to cost us one day.

45465_1384791340.jpg And last but not least, to all those people who wrote this team off.
To all those people who critisized this team...tonight's for you.

| Excellent game plan from the Pies. Wane outsmarted a superior team with a tactical masterclass. Saints did the same when they beat us at Langtree. I hope McDermot comes up with a plan to counter such tactics for the next time we meet. Well done you guys.

What a refreshing post. Having looked around the forums last night (Virtual Terrace especially) not many people commented on the positive aspects of the match, of which there were many. Instead most decided to pull Wigan apart due to the 5-10 minute spell of madness!
Something about Leeds v Wigan matches that still have that 80's feel about it (ie - fast open rugby, shades of brilliance, hard and agressive defences with a bit of biff thrown in)!
May there be many more like that!

| Slightly OT: Does anyone know if this game will be replayed on Sky or anywhere? I wish i'd have recorded it for a family member who missed it, as i dont think the highlights will truly reflect the effort the lads gave.

I think that we never get any credit were it's due, even from our own fans. Before the game I thought this was 50/50 and afterwards was really proud of the way our lads played.
SW said it was the best performance of the season - and I agree.
Maybe Leeds won't be as bad as Hull, but they lost to Saints second string, so why couldn't we beat them?'"
I said last week that I thought we were superb at Hull FC, and very few of you agreed. Most put it down to Hull being poor. IMO this weeks performance against Leeds was fashioned in Hull last Friday where in the second half McIlorum moved to LF.
