| if you can fill it for a league game then it's best to have one that can accommodate the number of fans that are turning up in the current climate. Wigan have proven over the last 4-5 seasons that they can get crowds of over 20,000 so the stadium has to be big enough for that, whether it's a derby is irrelavent.

| Yes you've sold out the DW, loving chuff not my point.
Can i word this any different
You get more games under 18k than those over 18k (does that work), around 70% this season, probably increasing when you play your next 2 games, 'kin hell.
Do some of you not live in the real world, yes i know you'd like a nice big stadium of your own but the fact is if you did build one it wouldn't be as big as DW and it would more than likely be the same size as Saints.
Fact over expectation.

| I'll just add i'm off to work, and as i feel i have too much ownership (that doesn't mean i've owned anyone btw just contributed too much and made it about me) that i'll pm any response to satisfy you that i've not given up on my point, which has nothing to do with me not supporting wigan or supporting your enemy but just a logical argument.

| I was thinking along the lines of this argument a few days ago
Crowds will increase over the years so what happens when years down the line we sell like 25k season tickets?
Yes you can fill the corners in but it will happen at all clubs what do they do?

| HY,
How long do you think it will take to get the return on the investment made in adding the extra seats at the HJ?

With most new stadiums there is always the scope to remove the roof of one of the stands and built a second tier on top.

| Quote: wiganrl "It looks decent not quite sure why they chose 18,000 as no offence but the only its going to reach capacity is when Wigan & Wire show up and perhaps for the odd international and maybe a Cup Semi if chosen I would have thought 15,000 would be better for Saints, Its also unusual but quite nice of Saints in those pictures to advertise the pitch where (Legends) Sam Tomkins, Lockers, Richards & Carmont will be playing.'"
History shows that when clubs build a new stadium their crowds tend to go up. For instance, Warrington were getting something like 7,000 so it was considered that a ground the size of the HJ would be sufficient. Now they're on about extending it by filling the corners in, because it's now not big enough.
Similarly, weren't Wigan only attracting something like an average of 9,500 during their last year at Central Park? 18k's fine at St Helens.

| Quote: Horatio Yed "Missing the point-tastic, Wire sold 35K for wembley, should we build a 35k stadium?
Wire would probably sell 20k+ plus tickets if we had the capacity, for a derby game, doesn't mean we should have a 20k+ stadium for the sake of 2 games a year.
18k would be ideal for wigan like someone says 10k season ticket holders, 3k allocation MAX for away fans, 5k home walk up.'"
I was wondering how I should describe you.
Where have I stated that just because we will take loads to a cup final that we need a bigger venue. I just didn't do that.
The thing is YOU WOULDN'T sell that many for a derby. The saints derby game this year sold out 4 days before the game. How would you have sold over 7k tickets in those 4 days? You just wouldn't!!!!!
What don't you understand... WE DO GET THOSE BIG GATES!!! Therefore the extra capacity is handy.
How about we take away wires two big gates and then give them an 11k capacity.....
Oh dear you are making yourself look even more stupid. First you said a 13k capacity stadium would be enough and now you are saying an 18k capacity would be enough.
Do you really think the club would have been happy at losing out on all that extra revenue???
Also the stadium wouldn't have had the chance to host some of the huge international matches it has had with an 18k capcity. You are talking tripe.
I am not saying we need that size stadium because I am arrogant, not because 'we are Wigan', not because I think we are a big club..... but because believe it or not we do actually go over 18k at times.... What don't you understand.
Isn't that the reason wire are expanding? They don't fill it every game... like us... but they know they could get more for certain games... like us.

Only because the club couldn't afford a stadium that big. I think it would be 20k though.
Just to add. You claimed that our average would be hit by our remaining games. You are wrong.
The marketing team have pullled another rabbit our of the hat.

Heritage day game.
The club will selling tickets to sponsors and local businesses like they did for the quins game last year. The crowd for that was almost 19k... something we couldn't have done with a smaller stadium.
I almost expect this to be bigger and better. No doubt the crowd will hit similar heights... could be seriously huge if we are to lift the league leaders shield with a win. Our game against Bradford last year hit 17k on the final day when we lifted the league leaders shield, that was ALL in the home end. Wigan fans turning out in those numbers along with 3-4k in the North stand like at the Quins game could create one of our biggest crowds of the season.
'thanks heinz' like you said about the quins game.... well, well, well... the first year this happened in 2009 we got almost 15k for the quins game, that was when the whole north stand was sold to heinz.... but in 2010 alot of it went to other places.... all of these tickets will also be purchased, which means extra income.
Your club could copy our efforts and get a few sell-outs a year with little time and effort.

| I'm not on about Wire, and you're still missing the point. If i beat you round the head with it you'd still miss it.
Wire's ground is big enough for us as it is, EVEN THOUGH DEMAND IS OCCASIONALLY BIGGER THAN CAPACITY but i think they're making it bigger looking for other commercial ventures.
DW is too big EVEN THOUGH VERY OCCASIONALLY IT MEETS HIGH DEMAND. I'm not going to call you an idiot but i should.
Rouges, don't know mate but i'd guess a long while. Personally just from a Wire view i don't think it needs it unless the board have a secret plan to fill it every week, the only thing that excites me by it is the ground should sound better on match day.

| Fact is Yed, we DO get crowds of well over 20k for certain games such as Saints and Wire, so yes, we do need a 25k stadium otherwise there would be quite a few very dissapointed people when it came to getting tickets for the Wire or Saints game.

| Quote: Horatio Yed "You need some better maths mate, plus i said 2011 not 2010, why don't i pull Bradfords attendances of 2003 instead of 2011 i could make a point they are the best supported team.
taking away you'r three biggest because a) Wigan v Wire, Wire v Saints, Saints v Wigan unnaturally scew results they would all sell out 20k+ no matter what stadium currently if played at home(saints not quite at home this year scews theirs slightly)
b) artifically inflated attendance v Hudds (look at your previous season seeing as you like that in which you get nowhere near 19k for Hudds)
The average without those 3 games is actually 14,037 (would you like a lesson in working out averages?)
and yes i know the HJ is 13, 024 but i also said FOR WIGAN, you must actually remember other teams bring fans too which means 13024 is big enough for JUST Wigan, obviously you factor in away support at a least 1k
I've seen you maths on other threads anyway OD.
It's like Warrington justifying having a 22k stadium just because we could sell it out against you, another reason i took those games out the equation.
Our attendance is roughy (without actually working it out 10.5k) now you factor in a potential 2 games v Saints and Wigan selling 22k and the average jumps up by 2 thousand.
Long and short of it, 18k is more than adequate for Wigan just because a couple of games goes above it doesn't mean it's the norm and doesn't justify saying 'we are the biggest team therfore need more than 18k'.
You're average would suggest you don't more than 18k and factoring out 2 games that go against the norm/average (meaning your usual level) all your fans would fit in our stadium.
Can't believe i typed that out for the sake of my own ego, im cream cracked.
Lastly
(18k for Quins, thanks Heinz)'"
Good God! That is the biggest pile of c@ck I've ever seen written on these boards...and that's saying something!
Go and have a word with yourself Yed...you're showing yourself up!
