God's honest truth? I'd never heard of him. (Is that bad?)
Just like I've never heard of David Vaughan (a 30 year old Welsh International footballer who plays for Sunderland) and needed to google to prove my point.

| I still don't get this sense of entitlement from fans to 'Know what's going on'? It was the same with the Hock saga, as though it was anybodies business what was going on in Ian Lenegan's office.
We'll know when the club decide to let us know.
As for the signing...i'm not convinced. But then, I wasn't with Smith or Green also. I have faith as it's very rare under this regime for us to make a poor signing.

What a dreadful thing!
Taste is the enemy of creativeness.

| how good an acquisition this is depends on his fitness. he's got a great frame and natural aggression. he has also played RL as a junior (for the Cardiff Demons).
i'm not aware of him being especially injury prone, but he has had shoulder issues in the past.
trust in wane. hes got a decent track record so far in judging talent.

i wonder if Wigan will sit in silence on this for the next 7 months before they confirm this is happening.

It's the end of the RU season not ours. I think they've got about 5 games left or something.

| He's certainly played in some massive games and he'll bring a fresh perspective when the business end of the season comes around.
I'm excited to see how he goes as I've always admired him.

| Quote: jonh "Whilst I understand the point being made Pongia had been there done that and got the t shirt. He was technically one of the best Props around and proved a great signing.
Powell is a risk, I assume the club have sat down and planned exactly how they want to use him and also talked it through with him.
A big part of the attraction I think is the size and personality, I think we lack a big personality in the pack.
Issues to look out for are his lungs, it's a very different type of fitness required to play league and I am sure he will be used in very short spells 15 minutes max. I also think defences will target him especially the halves as I expect he will struggle, with defence patterns getting back and set before a clever hooker or half is away with the ball.
Positives will be his carry and his eye catching hits on the other big men.
It is without doubt a massive risk but I think it could be one that pays off.'"
Fair point.
One of the things that I noticed when Pongia arrived at Wigan was the effect that he had on the Wigan pack at the time. Players seemed to up their performance and looked much more confident out on the field.
One thing that we do lack at the moment is that kind of player and Im hoping that Powell could have a similar effect in that he would provide that bit of leadership and fear factor to a young Wigan pack.
Either way I think the season is about to get a lot more interesting.

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10174.png |

| We have room to take a calculated risk and I'm sure Wane knows a little more about the game than we do?
I'll be honest I've never heard of the guy, but seeing as I don't watch union it's no surprise. I've googled a few vids though and he's a big guy and plays hard, just what we are missing.

| The departures of Lima and Hock, plus the long term absenteeism of Hansen, Mossop and Prescott means we've lost a lot of the oomph in our pack that we had the past few years. The consensus seems to be that he is a big enforcer-type prop who I think should be a good addition to the side.

| When will he start for Wigan. Presuming he's coming at the end of the RU season which ends around the same time as football. The Best part of a year playing union and then starting league (possibly again) with the major and subtle differences of the two sports. I cant see him in the Cherry and White until 2014.
