29281_1270406980.jpg When Maurice sold me to Leeds something changed, it just not the same, the passion inside me just wasn’t the same as running out at Central park for my hometown club.
We need a change of culture here; we don’t want to be just happy with playing ok on Saturday at St Helens.
Ill make sure that from now on things will change, that players will be under pressure and will train a lot harder than they have before.

If, in the long run, Wigan's star players are fresher later in the season and the youngsters whoplayed today have gained valuable experience, then it will have been worthwhile even though we lost. At least we didn't lose to Wire, Leeds or Saints. And let's remeber that Leeds won from 5th when Wigan, who finished second, looked tired last season.'"
Resting players en-mass in this game will have no effect on their fitness toward the end of the season. It would have been an easy game for them to play in and hardly up there with a game v Wire.
The youngsters won't have benefited either. Young players benefit by being introduced one at a time into an experienced team playing alongside the established players not being chucked in all together and then going on to lose a game.
Clubs are still supposed to play their best sides (though the rule is slightly different than it used to be) and there are good reasons reason for that one of which includes not ripping off the fans by putting weakened sides out. If Wane has the RFL to answer to he ought not to be surprised.
Wane got the job with a lot of goodwill from many fans myself included but if he carries on making stupid mistakes like this he will use it up very quickly.

| Quote: Rogues Gallery "There was nothing wrong with the team selection when we were 18 points up. Somebody has to give Widnes some credit for hanging in and sneaking the win.
Why did Finch try to offload on the 1st tackle with a minute to go 10 yards from the Widnes line? He was captain and one of the more experienced players.
Poor decision from him, as was Charnleys kick straight into touch after ta Widnes try.
Those along with a few stupid penalties conceded were not the coaches fault.
If there are any referees on here, what is the ruling regarding stopping the game after a head injury? It certainly cost Wigan when Goulding was down for about five tackles.'"
There is only one reason we lost and that was Wane's stupidity.
There isn't a game Wigan play were mistakes are not made so highlighting those above is irrelevant.
Also saying there was nothing wrong with that selection when we were 18 points up is completely daft. It's the final result that counts not how we were going at some arbitrary point in the game. How many league points did being 18 in front get us in the end?
We lost the game because Wane put an inexperienced side out and we both know it.

From what I could see he deliberately threw the ball away to try to win the penalty. He realised Widnes hands were on the ball so just flicked it forwards to make it look like it was ripped out. It was just daft.
He made two great individual breaks but on the whole I was disappointed with Finch. His passing was a bit wayward and his kicking was very poor, and I can't honestly say he showed much leadership or encouragement. McIlorum and Goulding seemed to be the only players trying to show some enthusiasm.
Also disappointed with him storming off down the tunnel too. It's a bit pathetic.
However, I'm not one for personal abuse on forums but anyone who actually thinks Shaun Wane should be sacked is an absolute moron and should not be allowed to watch rugby league again until they get their head tested. What a joke of a thread.

After the emotion of today has subsided I'll agree with this, until then I'm going to remain bitterly disappointed and let down by Shaun Wane. After all the growling and tubthumping about showing no mercy and doing things the Wigan Way that got the fans enthused and fully behind him he then goes completely against that phiolosophy by totally disrespecting the opposition and doing Denis Betts job of motivating the Widnes side. Today was an opportunity for a merciless 80 minute performance against a side that are probably the worst in the competition.
That said the title of this thread is just bloomin daft. I'd be happy with an admission from SW that he got it wrong and he's learnt his lesson.

| Awful team selection from Wane if he'd brought in just one or two youngsters we would of been fine and would have ran away with it after going 12-0 up, would of been an easy game and the first team regulars would have hardly been exhausted it would have been a walk in the park and a breeze. Instead the regulars who did play like Hansen, Hock and McLlorum got into a real battle and looked absolutely knackered at the end and were literally out on there feet.
In saying that we still should have won, the team that Wane put out let him down. Marsh tore Hughes apart and showed he doesn't have the speed/footwork to play centre at the moment. Finch drifted in and out of the match and should have controlled it alot better when he did ie. first 15 of both halfs he was fantastic the rest of the time he disappeared. Russell to me in attack needs to be abit wider, he seemed to be pretty much behind Finch when receiving the ball when we was doing the sweeping moves outwide. He looked really nervous under the high ball aswell which helped Widnes start to get a foothold in the game. Gelling is a centre to me and looked uncomfortable outwide which was another mistake by Wane IMO, as was making Josh switch wings as he also looked slightly uncomfortable at times.
Full credit to Widnes though they played some good stuff going forward and will definitely trouble sides if they replicate that performance throughout the year.

I hope we don't rue todays result at the end of the season.
