| Quote: RLIMR "You can talk about stats all you want but the crucial stat for a winger is probably tries scored. Foster, at the moment has scored more. Foster has also made less errors. Two pretty big stats when discussing a winger.
Charnley has also been exposed in defence quite often.
Don't get me wrong, Charnley is a great young player and should have a big future ahead him. But you don't have to make a case for each and every Wigan player. You are the unltimate cock measurer.'"
For a Winger, tries scored stats are less relevant than for anyone else. Look at Ade Gardner - not even close to Richards, but had similar try stats as he made a career out of falling over the line having 2 world class centres inside him.
By try stats alone - Richards was marginally better than Goulding in 2010, yet we all know the reality is very different.

Richards' clean breaks, tackle busts, carries and metres gained stats probably show the reality better than the try scorer stats.... his overall contribution was immense for a winger. It was a fabulous season.

23997_1287161421.jpg
Great game of rugby league. Fantastic atmosphere, Wigan were breathtaking and dominant in all areas for the first 25 minutes, coupled with us making alot of dumb mistakes, then fortunately they brought McIlorum on which helped us back into the game. I thought some of the tries we scored to get us within two we're out of this world stuff. Towards the end we had to force it a little and we had a few things go wrong, i.e Monas kick on the first for King and Solomona going off who was causing havoc. Wigan were clinical in their eventual execution of us. Proud of Wire today and gave us a little glimpse to the future. Silverwood was awful as per, but I expect no less. Tomkins is a world class player and by far the best english player in SL. Wigan are a champion side and would be a worthy winner of taking our title as challenge cup. Good luck over the next month and a bit.
:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_23997.jpg |

If he wasn't an immense goal-kicker nobody would really notice his play. He's solid and rarely makes an error but do you think Foster could have scored the try Charnley scored against Wire in the CC?'" No but then again Fosters defence would have been better
Both have good and bad points and both will be playing for England in the future

| Id love Lockers to win it because he is our man of steel.. although Id love Sam to win it just because the whole of Rugby League would go in to meltdown

And could Charnley have scored the try Foster scored at Leeds back in March (the one which won him try of the month from Sky)? Jamie Foster's build allows him to score tries that Charnley, being bigger, would not manage. The opposite applies also. I can't imagine Foster barging over for a try ever but Charnley would do that relatively easily.

Are you saying that Foster only scored that try because he's skinny? I'm pretty sure Charnley isn't so big that he can't reach around his back with both hands. He's not David Solomona! Anyway I was referring more to the pace that Charnley showed in going the length of the field, something I've never seen Foster do. Granted I don't see every Saints game but Foster has never struck me as having a lot of out and out speed

| Depends what criteria they apply;
- if it's Workrate, Endurance, Toughness and Durability then it's going to be Roby (with Lockers and Westwood battling for runner up)
- if it's Creativity, Gamebreaking Ability and Natural Attacking Talent then it's Sam (with Chase, Dureau, Monaghan and Hodgson not far behind)
I think Man of Steel was originally intended to be the former and more of a forwards award, but the likes of Hodgson, Richards and Wellens winning it in the past has confused the criteria somewhat.

| The idea of the MOS is to vote for the player that has "made the most impact in super league"
Based on that it's Sam every day of the week, lockers, Westwood and to a certain extent Roby (less so) are just ruthlessly efficient i.e they don't make a huge impact, they just do their job very well

That may be the case now, but certainly wasn't when Adrian Vowles was winning MOS.

I agree, a true man of steel award was won by the likes of Farrell and Bell but nowadays it is voted as the player that has made the most impact, with that criteria it has to be Sam

Correct, and now it has simply become a player of the season award as generally speaking you would just assume players would tend to vote for the best player they have played against rather than the hardest in defence or most deadly in attack.

Lockers hasn't had a better season than Jon Wilkin, let alone James Roby.
It's probably the most limited season I've ever seen from O'Loughlin (who if you look back on my posts about him I rate very, very highly).
