| I'm a little skeptical to be honest. Someone doesn't just forget to include that the proceeds go to charity.

My thoughts as well ,but either way it does not show the club in a very good light , tacky, amateurish, and not even professionally put together.

| Quote: Mick Hogan "Apologies folks but it should have been clearly marked on the ebay mascot opportunity that all the proceeds will go to charity - The Wigan Warriors Community Foundation.
The Foundation costs over £100,000 to run. It brings opportunities to thousands of people every year across Wigan and the north west enriching their lives via sports coaching, health, education and social inclusion projects. Everything is fully supported by approximately 400 player appearances a year who all give up their time free of charge.
Like all charities it needs to run at break even and unique opportunities such as this all help in their own little way. We will continue to ebay such opportunities as every bit of money raised means more people can benefit from the excellent work of the Foundation.
Mascots at home games will continue to be drawn by Max's club. This is the Warriors' official junior fan club which is free to join.
Once again the charity aspect of both the mascot and player sponsor opportunities should have been clearly stated and I apologise for any confusion this has caused.
Regards
Mick Hogan

I wonder if Louise Williams reads this? I know the club has used ebay for selling shirts, but as has already been said, some things need to be better thought out. They might do better making it a raffle, selling tickets and making it more public at a home game.

They could of done alot better job at making it public. What MH has said just doesn't add up for me.
- The official Wigan Warriors mascot for CCSF
(Big thing in itself and a once in a lifetime oppurtunity for any 8-12yr old - where is the advertisement? Schools? Swimming Baths? Even the bloody website, not a mention.)
- All proceeds to charity
(Surely that would be the first thing that the advertiser would put down, whoever did it "forgot"? Sorry I'm just not buying that.)
Bull story, bull excuse.

| The charity comment may be valid, but like 100% Warrior points out, where the fook is it mentioned?
Plus the 'Money can't buy' line is comedy genius, utterly brilliant.
Whoever listed that item should be subject to the firing squad.

Please don't think that by coming on here I am in any way trying to 'pass the buck'. The buck stops with me and I will apologise on behalf of the club if it is called for (which in this case it is).
To the sceptics can I point out that this is not some sort of reaction to cover up a blunder. It was always intended that ebay would be used to raise funds for the Foundation. So much so that there is a budget line for the Foundation that is 'ebay income'. Furthermore if anyone cares to check the website of Newcastle Falcons (my previous club) you will see that their ebay site has for the past 5 years benefited the Falcons Community Foundation (to the tune of a significant five figure sum). This is something I instigated myself and it is a no-brainer to do it for our own newly formed Foundation.
As for my/trhe club's involvement on this or other fans site it is a fine balance. We will never comment or respond to threads on subjects such as player form, team performance or general subjective comment/rumours on the club as a whole. We will, where we are made aware, correct any inaccuracies that are posted, apologise where need be and step in if any libellous comments were posted (thankfully never so far!).
The other option we have is to have no involvement whatsoever. If posters wish this to be so then we will honour that but I would be disappointed if that was the case.
As ever if you wish to contact me direct to discuss this or any other matter I am available on m.hogan@jjbstadium.co.uk or 01942 770405.
Regards
Mick

So why hasn't the 'edit' function been used to amend the listing to show the monies raised are to go to charity?

Thank you for coming back and answering some of the criticism. I am sure you will take some ideas away and incorporate them in future marketing and advertising campaigns.
I am also sure that you see all the posters on here are also fans of the club, and want to see it grow and be successful, whilst maintaining a professional approach, in line with its standing in the sporting world.

It depends who is running it and has access to the eBay account passwords.
I'd be peeved if it isn't changed soon but with it being the weekend we should wait until Monday or Tuesday to see if it gets rectified when the relevant person who’s job this is comes in cause no one likes working at the weekend
If they money is going to charity then it’s a little sad that it wasn’t better advertised in the local paper on the clubs website to gain more publicity for it.
A good idea in practice but the way it’s been set up and organised is a little amateurish.
Still better than doing nothing at all imo and it’s something that never happened under the previous owners who couldn’t have cared less about things like this nor did they come on here to sort out issues with the fans.

| Fair enough but I still believe something like this shouldn't be paid for, whether the money is going to charity or not. I'm sure there are thousands of Wigan kids who are less well-off that would love to run out with O'Loughlin at a Semi Final.

I agree and it could be done in the form of a competition to get the kids involved, or even a raffle with tickets selling for a £1. That way the money raised from raffle tickets will probably be the same and it gives everyone an equal opportunity to be a mascot.
