| Quote: jonh "Regarding the make up of the team I do think we have too many foreign players but that is not our fault it is the fault of the RFl and something they have allowed to get out of hand.
In my opinion though it is not essential to have nor should anyone expect a team full of Wigan lads. It is totally unrealistic to expect the Wigan area to produce a team with a realistic chance of silverware.
I think that there is clearly a need for a Wigan presence but i think we have it about right at the moment, it depends on the quality of player, i for one would like to see a team made up of British lads with a maximum of 4 overseas players in it, I do not care where the British players come from as long as they are up to the task.'"
IF THE CLUB WAS RAN DIFFERENTLY...
Briscoe
Ainscough Gleeson Ashton Richards
Tomkins Long
Fielden Newton Prescott
Hock Tomkins
Lockers
---------------
Feka Wild Tommy O Carroll.
13 from 17-I That team would be pose a threat for any SL team.

I do not think it is an issue with necessary how the club is run, there are more factors than this regards contract renewals, finances at any one given time player satisfaction etc.
I also think we would be in deep trouble with that front row!

Yet now we have a front row of Prescott Riddell Coley? Lots better is it?
You mentioned contracts etc, they are all part of how a club is run.

No but it is better and it gets mullered so to go in even lighter weight would not be advisable in my opinion.
Contracts are a part of how the club is run, but you cannot look at it in such simple terms, for example in order to retain Briscoe we would have had to have released the best Fullback in the country at the time, to retain Ashton we would have had to offer vast sums of money over and above his rugby league market value.

There are always ways around deals. And different ways of ensuring a player will stay at the club.
The team I suggested was simply to illustrate a team full of Wiganers isn't a totally out of the question.

Why he has not played well in the last 2 games had a great game against Saints and Warrington then went down hill again good defense but way to slow in attack again

Interchange wise he could come on for practically any of the 3/4 line. Richards, Roberts and Phelps can FB. Phelps can play centre.
Just about ulitising Ainscough if we need that spark. There's no one else available (minus Feka) who can come on and change the game.'" IF AINSCOUGH PLAYS I THINK DYER FROM CELTIC WILL HAVE A FIELD DAY FROM CROSS FIELD KICKS HAVE U SEEN THIS GUY JUMP

So how would we have got around the the 20/20/20 rule that was in p,ace when Briscoe was playing, who would we have dropped to give him the 1st team RL he was ready for and with Aston, what ruse would we have adopted so we could match his RU wage?
Briscoe had little option but to leave and Ashton could have accepted less cash but chose not to. Nothing the club could do in either case IMO.

That team was not possible for the reasons given. Certain players move on for the right reasons either right for the club or right for the player. It wasn't a mistake in every case that Wigan born players leave the club.
