could be an exciting move this one. Obviously a big, experienced, aggressive unit and prop is an area where the transition between codes should run smoother. It doesnt expose positional play such as centre or halfbacks so age may not be problem.

Pretty sure he's never played for Leeds Carnegie/Tykes. Most of his career in Union was with the Welsh regions I think he played for 3 of them Llanelli, Newport and mostly Cardiff. He also played for Wasps before he moved to Sale so would of played under Shaun Edwards I think. From when I've watched him play he definately looks to have a running style that would actually fit better in League than Union, as he runs very hard and upright and looks to drive forward in contact rather than go to ground, which means he turns the ball over quite abit but with the 2 in the tackle rule league should really suit him. Personally think he'll convert quite well and also it should provide a big boost for RL in Wales which I believe we have an agreement with to help develop.

Whilst I understand the point being made Pongia had been there done that and got the t shirt. He was technically one of the best Props around and proved a great signing.

Powell is a risk, I assume the club have sat down and planned exactly how they want to use him and also talked it through with him.

A big part of the attraction I think is the size and personality, I think we lack a big personality in the pack.

Issues to look out for are his lungs, it's a very different type of fitness required to play league and I am sure he will be used in very short spells 15 minutes max. I also think defences will target him especially the halves as I expect he will struggle, with defence patterns getting back and set before a clever hooker or half is away with the ball.

Positives will be his carry and his eye catching hits on the other big men.

It is without doubt a massive risk but I think it could be one that pays off.

Worth a punt imo. Our pack looks young and "un-streetwise".

He "could" bring size, experience and leadership.

I'm sure we will announce it 3 games into his career at Wigan, the last few years the club really are slow at letting folk know what's happening, they wait until nobody cares anymore and the rumour loses momentum and then comes out and acknowledges it.
