The RFL will want to be seen as consistent, if you leave your feet in the tackle and apply your full weight to a player in a way that could be deemed reckless and they get injured, you're going to get pinged for it.
The mitigation in Nsemba case is that be doesn't land on the lads legs so it's not a "hip drop".'"
I haven't seen it back (what time is it?) But there's a difference between leaving your feet because the natural momentum of a tackle going away from you pulls the defender from their feet and being in control of your movement and deciding/deliberately making a movement to jump forward and around/into the ball carrier to maximise weight drop around/onto the ball carrier
There was a tackle in the cats game last night were defender is "pulled" off their feet and they end up behind and on ball carriers legs, but defender made no play to do that and weight wasn't promoted forward by defender.

I've posted the clip there.
You are right buuuut, in the current climate, if you end up dropping your weight in a tackle and the attacker gets injured you're going to get cited, then all that will be taken into consideration, how you left your feet, how and where you landed, can it be deemed to be reckless regardless of intent.
Watching the video, IMO Junior would be very lucky not to get a ban.

Thanks for the clip - if I had to guess I'd say he'll get a 1-2 game ban. Personally I think Junior instinctively left his feet and used his body weight to drag the Cas player back - you can't do that now.

Thought at the time Lingard was saying hip drop on the sideline (not sure, I was lip reading that).
Not a hip drop but the NFL have something they call a "horse collar" tackle, a bit like this tackle so maybe MRP will introduce that idea here. A ban would be harsh so maybe a fine/warning and a new directive going out?

| Looks a potential ban to be tbh. It might not be a conventional hip drop tackle but both his feet leave the ground and they’ll consider any injury, rightly or wrongly. I do think Nsemba gets swung around as the attacker starts dropping and you can see he turns to his left as he’s going down, which makes Nsemba do that but you know what they’re like. They’ll come up with some reasoning where Nsemba should’ve just disappeared in a puff of smoke.
It’ll be interesting to see who plays at second row if he’s out. I don’t think Walters will be ready for the 80 but they’re not testing Chan out in there at reserve level as far as I’m aware.

| Not a classic hip drop but still ban worthy I reckon.
Nsemba 23 carries for 149metres the other night too. Shame he might miss a game.
Mago strangely went to second row for a bit against Cas in the cup. Surely not mobile enough to defend there for long periods though.

Would have to have someone on the bench to cover 2nd row if Mago is standing in. Can eckersley stand in there or is it a massively shoe horning him in

| If we end up having to shoe horn somebody in I'd probably go for Miski, no idea what his in the middle defence is like and he probably doesn't know either but I wouldn't have any worries about his carting the ball up ability.
Who knows though, maybe MP will decide to give one of the young lads who played in the reserves yesterday a crack.

| It'll probably end up a ban for Nsemba but that clip is a bit disingenuous as it only shows the part where he is being swung round (and puts it on repeat). Again, this is only from memory from the game live but he affects the tackle earlier than that and keeps his feet until he is swung around as seen in the clip. He doesn't "dive in off his feet" as is being said elsewhere.
If (when) he gets banned it leaves us short in the 2nd row unless Walters is ready to step backup. There's no ready made permanent 2nd rower in the squad. I think we're talking least worst option whichever way we go.

| It isn't the usual hip drop as Juniors doesn't drop his hip. His whole body is involved in the tackle. Don't see where the problem is.
In any case, if a ban were issued then the club would surely appeal.

| Dupree is the most natural fit for 2nd row IMO but it'll be interesting to see what Peet's back up plan is.

Yea or could Ellis do a job for us there. Stick O’Neil at 13 and Leeming at dummy half. Or stick chan on to replace Dupree if he’s tired

| Was the Nsemba tackle the one where the Cas player went off injured? If it was he’ll certainly pick up a ban. Not malicious but poor technique.

Beardsworth would be the best option from the Reserves, defence is excellent but go forward is not (just yet). TBH I think they will go with Chan.
