The other factor with combat sports like boxing is the rest period, you may only fight three or four times a year. With concussion injury the rest period is a major consideration.

| Quote: Itchy Arsenal "A really pleasing performance.
I was worried before the game how we would react after the energy sapping game against Saints. A great response from the whole squad.
Some rest and perfecting our game next week ready for Cas in the CC.
Great to see Hill make his first start for the first team.'"
Really surprised that Hill was left out for the Good Friday match, felt he had been performing pretty well especially against Penrith.
His potential is scary.

| I’ve lauded Hill I think he’s going to be a hell of a player but I’ve also noticed a few posts about Eseh almost as if he’s a bit of a project signing.
Eseh was really pushing for contention at a genuine member of the top 17 squad. His injury came at a really bad time and it’s almost as if he has become a bit of a forgotten man.
I can assure you, when he is fit Sam will be pushing for a genuine place in the 17. He offers something totally different to our other props as he is a natural off-loader.
He became a solid target last year after our home game against Trinity when he had a bit of a running tussle with Isa and came out on top. The lad is the real deal.
The key for us is having a plan around all these props because they are all SL ready and they need managing. Thankfully that is something we have been very good at but I do see the age and number of talented young props we have as our greatest test of how good we actually are at it.

| Quote: MadDogg "I think your argument is fundamentally flawed in that the referees are applying criteria that is set for them by the governing body. Moylan was yellow because Field was falling on contact which is a mitigating factor according to criteria. Byrne was red because Percival wasn't falling. It seems very clear to me.
I think there have been issues with the MRP this year - the level of successful appeals has demonstrated a lack of consistency. But referees in this context shouldn't be blamed for doing the job that has been set out for them. If they ignore the criteria and choose to go another way they'll be out of a job just as anyone would if they choose not to follow the rules of the workplace.
I understand you don't like it and you may think everyone's gone soft etc but the underlying fact (not opinion but fact) is that the game can't play without insurance and insurance wasn't going to be provided without the changes. Write a letter to the insurers if you're angry about it.'"
Where does it state that referees should consider mitigating factors when making their decisions (serious question)?

| Hopefully we’re seeing the start tonight of the refs ignoring people lying down, rubbing their heads/necks etc. Matty Dufty and Sam Lisone have both tried it on and been ignored.
Great to see.

| And another. Thewlis lying down like he’s been run over by a truck, Williams and a few others running in to the ref and all ignored.

It’s good to see though I did think that would be classed as a shoulder charge.
Before I stopped watching football a good 15-20 years ago I said that any player running in on the ref like that should get an automatic 1 match ban. I’d like to see that in RL. Give an 1 match ban to any player going into the ref appealing for decisions, sticking hands in the air to try and get someone sin binned etc. Would soon stop them.

I
Definitely agree about players encroaching the referee and a ban. Thewlis should have been made to leave the field.

For me, the only players who should be allowed to speak to or approach the ref are the captains

I’d love to know if Thewlis actually had an issue. On the replay Lisone seemed to miss him completely but maybe O’Connor got a piece of him in the front on challenge. Either way, lads running in and Williams running towards the referee for a guy trying to put a shot on is ridiculous. Williams was vocal on the disciplinary but he can’t have it all ways and that goes for the players in general. They think the disciplinary are OTT (and they’re right) but they’re also prepared to roll over and play dead, scream at the referee etc and try to get players sin binned/sent off.

| Quote: Cherry_&_White "I think the four you mention are the ones who deserve their places as things stand. Certainly the first three - Cooper's injuries come into consideration now and there are others not far behind.
Thinking about how they complement each other though, Thompson Dupree and Havard are all comfortable playing big minutes, so it begs the question whether Mago offering something different for half an hour or so adds more than someone with a better engine and more solid defender? From where we are now I think he probably does, but that will probably become clearer as the season goes on.
It really is an embarrassment of riches though. Hill looks as good as prospect for his age as any front rower I've seen in this country for a long time.'"
For sure Hill is already beyond "prospect" and looking like a reliable prop. He was immense in the Academy and Reserves and has developed physically this off-season. Scarily, he has not had the opportunity to really show his great footwork and passing just yet. Usually props are in their mid-20s before having the necessary strength to play every week - Harvie seems to be there already.
Well done to the club for having a really good age profile for the props, perhaps with Cooper approaching retirement and Hill just beginning and plenty inbetween.!

Totally agree, and so prospect is probably not quite the right word. But the ceiling of what he could be in five or six years is scary to think.
