| I actually thought that was a pretty good game, high intensity and good defence from both sides. Hulls front row pretty dominant and we struggled at times to make yards but after the Field try to level it up I thought we looked the likely winner and all the momentum was with us. Field is just a game winner and we are lucky to have him, he just needs a tiny gap and he’s in.

| Before this game, most people were saying that Partington was much improved this season; certainly at the end of last season I didn't see much in him, poor discipline and not enough go-forward. But he has been better this year, if he's had a poor game, I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bath-water. I remain unconvinced about Harry Smith, though. Hope Marshall is OK.

| Quote: DannyT "I’ll argue. Byrne and Havard have been better. Both halfbacks have been poor and slow. Powell and Houghton are exactly the reason Super League is at the level it is. Honest and very limited plodders.'"
I’ll give you Havard - very good second half, poor (with Mago) after the first interchange.
Byrne & Singleton were both very good from the off - personally I couldn’t split the two for their first spell together. Byrne didn’t offer much when he returned.
There’s not too much more Powell could’ve done attack wise. We didn’t have many sets with quick PTB, and when we did he got us rolling very well (albeit without running himself).
Drop goal aside, I think Smith was the better of the two halves (agree neither were great). Most of the kicking, an assist, another would be assist to Isa which was an absolute walk in without the dickhands.
If we’re singling out individuals I’d go Isa, Partington, and Mago as the ones who offered least. I can see a back row of Farrell, Bateman, and Smithies once we have some centre options back.

| Great game by both teams. Can’t fault the lads dug in and grinded the win out. Could have really done with Ellis tonight. FC in the form they are in are a scary team to go up against, power up the middle with pace on the outsides they are looking some outfit

| And I don't really side how Willie Isa retains a place in the starting side.

| Can anyone see who it is doing extra fitness on the pitch? Is it Mago or French?

| Good resilience and grit from the boys against a strong and improving Hull team. I thought our young forwards gave absolutely everything and deserve great credit. Singleton and Farrell very good as well. We couldn't get our outside backs into the game but perhaps understandable with all the disruption. Field got us out of a hole yet again.
Smith had a decent start to the game but continues to look low in confidence. You have to hand it to him for knocking over those drop goals when we need them though.
More reshuffling for Wakefield next week it looks like with Marshall and Isa coming off. Great to have a deep squad that can deal with it though.

| Weird, I thought Smith had a good solid game, much better than Cust who I barely noticed

| That run from Farrell in our own half gave us fantastic position for Smiths drop goal. Although I actually thought we screwed it up minutes earlier when we were closer to the posts and decided to fling it wide only for Hardaker to fumble it, I was sure we'd blown it at that point.
Fair play, it took guts to win that match against a strong Hull pack especially when finding ourselves six points down on two occasions in the 2nd half.

| Quote: 100% Warrior "Lucky to get the win there IMO. Attack was very one dimensional and lacked fluidity. Jai Field dug is out the proverbial again which isn’t a good thing.
Smith/Partington were very poor. I am struggling to see a future at Wigan for either of them and that’s a huge turnaround from what I was saying months ago about Smith.
Still, 2pts in the bag and a confidence booster building towards hammering those lot from over the hill on Good Friday
Fair points.

| It just felt a weird game to me. The start was so much more comfortable than I expected and we were going well and then the whole ground and the team just felt flat and after that Hull seemed comfortably the better side. I felt like we stole the game really but they’re in good form, so we’ll take it.
We missed Leuluai in general but nobody misses him more than Cust. He really looks like a guy that currently wants to play second fiddle and when Leuluai is there controlling things, he just seems more at ease.
As for the rest it was a mixed bag. It looked disjointed with us needing to constantly shuffle things around. I’m more than pleased with the start Peet has made but I hope a second rower at centre when we don’t need to do it isn’t going to continue.

Our three quarter line is difficult to figure out atm, maybe for Peet as well. We have options but barely anyone has a nailed on position. Hardaker's on the wing but probably would be better at centre. KPP was moved to the centres out of nowhere but now he's gone for a while. Bibby doesn't look right at centre to me - he probably would look better on the wing. I'm not sure whether Thornley is seen primarily as a winger or a centre. Miski is still waiting in the wings and we may now be playing French on the wing to just get him on the field somewhere. And in amongst all of that we played all three of our backrowers at centre at some point during tonight's game.
No clue what we'll go with next week. My best guess is Hardaker/French on the right and Bibby/Thornley on the left.

Nailed on Farrell and Bateman in the centres then next week

| Don’t understand the criticism of Mago.
He came on at vital times of the game and provided go forward when Hull were getting on top.
Partington I thought had a good game too starting to provide some go forward.
Smith was his usual mixed bag. Drop goal won the game but the weight of the pass to Isa was poor, passing accuracy was poor and a couple of unforced errors. Cust though was worse tonight. It comes to something when TL is the best half in the club and most of us wanted to retire!
Marshall I thought was outstanding before going off and Faz probably won us the game with his line running.
