| Quote: DannyT "So the new Latics owners need to fill a gap of 500k then in between accounts, which they might find easier to do when there’s no rugby club there in a few years. The council accounts for the year seem to state they have given up/released or whatever the (technical term is) their 15% in the stadium.'"
As Jukes has suggested the gap would be £1m with catering losses.
Why would it be easier to do with no rugby club??
Are you guaranteed success in the future?

If it was up to me I’d flatten the thing and rebuild it for both clubs anyway. I want my weekend filled with games that’s about a 20-min walk from home in any case. From what the football’s new chief executive was saying a few weeks ago at the Fans Funder launch, you’ve logistically got to change the branding etc for the rugby days and then back to Latics, they can invest in the corporate side of things to increase revenue because in their opinion the stadium is underused in that regard. Then you’ve got the bookings for the stadium and other sports with potential usage. If there’s no rugby there then they’ve got full usage of the stadium. I can only go off face value what either side says, there’s obviously a rental agreement issue in the medium term and perhaps the council forgoing their 15% will feed into that as well.

What “other sports?
If rugby causes branding issues on match days wouldn’t other sports?
I assume other uses could be concerts but I’m unaware of any sports clubs that do this on a regular basis.
I’m with you by the way on flattening the thing. I’ve never really enjoyed the JJB

Women’s football was one area they were looking at extending once they’ve got their feet under the door. They definitely want to use it more for big events like concerts but I heard that from the last lot and all the stadium got out of them was a TV in the corner and plans for the entire block under the East stand to be a bar and fans area.

I don’t follow football at all and have no idea what crowds City, Arsenal, Chelsea etc get for women’s football but I suspect it ain’t a lot and more than likely at the moment they may well be cash negative to these clubs.

Women's football isn't a sport that's really backed by fans of football. It seems to be a specific group who just follow the women's game. a lot of family.
If you look on twitter when Sky advertise or try to promote it, it gets a lot of negative comments from football fans.

It’s the money behind it, like all things, they’ll be after accessing. A bit like United suddenly having an interest again.

| Wigan RL should have there own stadium. I enjoy my away days at the JJB however a club the size of Wigan shouldnt be dictated to by another sport. I dont know what free spaces you have in and around Wigan but its also the cost of the land which is expensive aswell as the build costs. Without Tesco i doubt ourselves and Saints would have got new stadiums.

Develop the Robin Park stadium fit for both clubs with a 16,000 +capacity .
Knock all the stands down at the DW apart from the West stand and put the running track there still be able to use West Stand for conventions ,weddings etc. Corporate facilities when athletics are on .

Yep. Knock down a perfectly good stadium and build one right next door. Makes perfectly good business sense.

| If we’re taking realistic ways to improve the stadium, I would hope the bit of talk about safe standing for the football comes off. The ground is too big for both clubs most weeks but I guess a safe standing section would drop the capacity a bit and the general feel would be much better.
Pointless discussing any ideas of a new ground because it’s a nine starter. The only need ground we may end up in is Leigh or Bolton IMO.

| Quote: Pieman "I spoke to some Latics fans at work the other day and they hate IL as they think he tried to kill them off with wanting the stadium and not the team, I had to put them straight after our phone conversation
This is the problem with a large part of the latics fanbase. I know RL fans, and wiganers in general, are not famed for their intelligence, but a large amount of their fanbase are something else. A significant amount are simply unintelligent. This, alongside a longstanding inferiority complex and a big chip on their shoulder, fuels their anti-rugby bile.
I tried to challenge a group of latics fans recently on the nonsense they were spouting about ‘leneghan trying to kill their club’ but there is no reasoning with them. You can’t get any logic or objectivity, just subjective nonsense.
I explained the only reason leneghan got involved was as there were no buyers showing interest or none with sufficient funds to stump up guarantees for their 6m running losses in the next two years, plus 3m for the purchase of the ground. Hence leneghan attempted to get a number of partners involved to save the club – by splitting the assets and liabilities to allow the club to survive. He was trying to protect the interests of both clubs and allow them to remain in business when liquidation looked the most likely result, and you could hardly blame him for not wanting to put himself or Wigan RL at financial risk by taking on their running losses.
The same accusation was made of Lindsay (tried to kill the club), which when challenged for what he actually did, amounted to nothing more factually than a flippant distasteful remark about being a ‘thriving little club’ and not letting them play a cup tie with Liverpool at central park!!
It was exactly the same mentality with the administrators, when they were receiving insults and death threats for being unable to sell the club when there was not interest to buy them. The same administrators who secured write off of £25m debts and allowed the sale of the stadium and club to lower bids than for the assets alone, simply to preserve the football club. Its no wonder they levelled the very same point about a large proportion of their fans not being intelligent enough to understand the realities of the situation.
I tried to challenge all of this with facts and objectivity, explaining they should ask themselves ‘how would an intelligent independent person outside of wigan react to such petty arguments’ they maintained that they regularly tell away fans the same thing who agree with them!! This is their slanted view of the world where they bend and stretch the truth into exaggeration and hyperbole to attempt to justify their ridiculous position. Unfortunately its also likely this ridiculous narrative which is sold to the bahranis and is fuelling the animosity between the two clubs.

| Quote: Grimmy "We have declining crowds, make a loss each year and will have just lost a significant amount of money due to how many games were played behind closed doors. Oh and we've done three years in a row without the money that comes from an (attended) final. This sounds like an excellent way to send ourselves under just to spite Latics. Even without the recent hit we have taken, just a totally financially unviable idea.'"
Here he is, RLfans very own death eater sucking the positivity out of the post.

Sorry you're absolutely right. It definitely makes financial sense to buy OSJ a new ground and build a second stadium in Wigan. Just add the £20m onto the losses we are already making, then add the stadium running costs onto those losses too. Are we building a train station at the ground as well by the way? Because Orrell train station to Orrell St James is the same distance as Wigan Wallgate to the DW. Just add that onto the losses too.
Of course Latics would still be effectively deciding when we play as there isn't a chance in hell that the police would allow us to play on the same day, they don't even let Bolton and Latics play on the same day, but at least it won't get boggy and we can have cherry and white seats, makes it all worth it.

Where's the 20million plus coming from ?
I'll leave the Hundred or other so problems until you've answered this one
(PS - The longer answer to this question has been done a million times - I'm just not what the purpose of constantly raising this is, how does it help?).
