| Quote: Singing Warrior "I cannot believe all the negativity on this forum about the return of Sarginson. If he is such a bad player how did he get in the England team? How did he get a contract in the NRL? If the doubts about him were in relation to his injury situation I could understand it, but no, all the moaning is about his lack of the desired ability. Get real, the days of signing superstars has long gone.'"
We all know that we can't sign 'superstars' not the NRL quality anyway but we expect to sign good players. The club stands and falls by it's decisions and we as fans have the right to voice our concerns when we can see that we are being taken for mugs. We are like a bit on the side for former players. We know we should't but we have been there before, we know what it's like and it's comfortable. Sarginson got in the England squad because he plays for Wigan. On that basis, Why did Shenton NOT get in the England side? Because he plays for unfashionable Castleford. The list of players who fall into that genre is endless. He got a contract in the NRL because he must have a very good agent. How did Turner get a gig over there? Why did Sarginson only play 5 games? Why was he told he had no chance of a spot in the team in a woeful NRL side who Wigan would lick every day of the week?

Or people who enjoy going to the rugby rather than sitting on the internet whining about it.

| Give the lad a break he’s 24 for gods sake it’s no big loss losing Gelling and getting Sarginson he offers more than Gelling who’s main interest seems to be social media

| As a Hull fan looking in, I never really saw Sarginson as a threat really. He seemed committed to the cause, put his body on the line (and his head, as always seem to see him with blood on his face)

| Apart from the inability for our recruitment to look beyond people who have previously lived in a WN postcode, Sarginson played his best rugby for Wigan for me when he moved to fullback, and at the moment he'll be third in line for that position. He's also a LEFT centre and he certainly won't be ahead of Gildart. If he's a replacement for Gelling things are worse than I thought as his dominant step and side are unsuited to playing on the right. IF Gelling is on the way out we need to sign a specialist right centre and not keep falling back on the easy option of re-signing old players.

| Sarg was outstanding in the centre for England in 2014 in the 4 Nations. Easily the best on tour.
He is regarded as one of the fittest players in the game.
He is 24 years old and ok he made the choice to try the NRL and it hasn’t worked out.
Of the lads that have come back I think there are underlying issues in relation to their underperformance -
Burgess I think had his confidence knocked and it needs building back up.
S Tomkins injured and one so bad his career was seriously under threat.
J Tomkins injured
Leuleui our style last year killed him.
Sarg has been injured but it is an upper body injury so shouldn’t be as devastating as Sams for example. He hardly seems lacking in confidence in fact you could argue the other way where he comes across as arrogant.
Obviously he returns as a risk but what signing isn’t a risk? He at least should settle back in quicker than others.
I’m not blown away by the signing but in the current climate it is as good as we can expect and with our injury record he provides excellent utility value.

I think John the issue with a lot of fans is that he wont be a utility player but may be the replacement for Gelling.
Also before season starts you look forward to watching new players yet again its another season with same old same old.
Personally I don't rate him at all.
I just hope he has ditched the girlfriend who caused numerous problems at the club.

| I disagree about the point about his injury being upper body. Aside from knees, shoulders are the most accident prone and the most difficult to get over.
In fact, in terms of the weight room, a shoulder injury is the most debilitating. If you have a knee injury you can likely work around any type of training. There probably isn't a single compound exercise going that doesn't utilise the shoulder. If you've got bad shoulders you can't squat, deadlift, bench, press, row or anything that builds size and strength.

There’s something in the article above that we should all remember. Sarg expresses frustration he wasn’t able to give the NRL his best shot as he played the first 5 games with a knee injury. When we criticise our players for poor form remember that they may well be playing with injury which is restricting them.

| Looks like we will be seeing the young lads fighting for a centre spot or are they all left sided as well?

If you saw him play for Wigan often enough you would surely be asking how on earth he got either. There seems some sort of collective amnesia affecting Wigan fans regarding Sarge because you are not the first one to ask what is the problem given he managed to do these things. I can only conclude those who quote these two things and so assume he must be good have never, ever seen him play for Wigan.
