| Seems stupid to not sell on the gate, compared to football Trouble is few and far between and surely not that bad to lose profit?
I will only find out tommorow if I can attend so that's a possible couple of tickets they would have sold tommorow,I'm guessing there would be a few hundred others too.

Its an RFL event so it will be down to the RFL or the police's discretion. I'd expect it will be the police who made the call. With two sets of supporters sharing the one terrace in a semi final, it can easily boil over no matter what the sport is. They would never allow pay on the gate in a situation like this because they will try and stop the fans from clashing as much as they can. By allowing pay on gate, it removes their control inside the ground. Salford seem to have had a few crowd issues over the last couple of years so i'd expect security to be a bit tighter tomorrow.

Fair play if this is true. That's a 1,000 more than last season!
You should be selling out your full allocation in no time when the game is only down the road to you.

The actual truth is we'll have about 5,500 at the game and whilst that's not great it'll be better then Salford or Leeds mustered this weekend.
Semi Finals are nothing new to us though so it doesn't quite catch the imagination for us like it does for a team like Hull. We've been in plenty of challenge cup semi's (and finals)over the last decade and since Hull last appeared in the Grand Final, we've been in 5 finals and numerous semi finals. As a team that's been generally very poor in the history of superleague, days like today are still fresh and exciting for a relatively unsuccessful club like Hull.
I long for the days when people wouldn't celebrate only taking 8 or 9,000 to a semi final though. It's not healthy when people think that's impressive.

We are hardly small time.
I'm not even trying to claim that Hull match Wigan's historical success, however we've just reached our 4th final since Hull last appeared in the Grand Final (and only one in 2006), which is not too far from your five (and we also had won the Cup in 2005)
However, it would be nice if semi final games were better attended by all clubs. Hull were once again well supported today, but still well down on the numbers that followed us to numerous semi finals in the 80's.
While many club's league average attendances have improved, Challenge Cup crowds have suffered. Not sure why, as the only change is they are now played in July as opposed to March/April?
Enjoy your match with Salford. Could go either way, but I expect Wigan's big game experience to see them through.

I've not said you're small time anywhere, just that semi's and finals are fresh and exciting for you. When you play in loads of semi's and finals the part timers who'll follow you in the earlier ones start to dwindle away as the novalty wears off. It happened with Wire during their run of Challenge cup and Grand Final appearances. In the earlier ones they were taking huge crowds to finals but as it became the norm their followings got smaller.
It'll be a close game today. Hope to see you in the final (where you'll probably take twice as many as us).

Wigans attendances have been gradually going down for a few years now 16+ in 2012 to probably dropping below 13 this season . I think that could be down to Thursday games, being treat like inferior tenants and the standard of rugby being not that entertaining. Add to that the season ticket price not being much of a saving (miss 2 games and your out of pocket).
With regards to cup games and semis I have no idea why they are poorly attended, you would think last years semi against yourselves would have been the highest gate of the season bar the saints game but the attendance was just over 10k!yet we managed 16k plus in a nothing game against Cats the week before.
I think you have to look at people's disposable incomes, and the towns the game is played in are hardly the most affluent places (people maybe saving their cash for the final) add to that the RFL are terrible at marketing (probably shouldn't have to for a semi) and the standard of the league as a whole has dropped which probably cumulative add up to the drop in attendances for semi finals.

The Keepmoat Stadium on a Friday was a big reason for a lot of Wigan fans not going to that semi v Hull. I couldn't get the day off work and couldn't go. The RFL poor marketing team have a lot to answer for. Yesterday's game was high quality and could easily have attracted new support for the game yet I saw very little (no) marketing anywhere!

Donny on a Friday was a disaster for all concerned at the RFL and it handed an advantage to Hull (not making excuses).
Hopefully they have learnt from that which it looks like they have but the marketing is terrible.how about having both semis at the same ground and make it into a magic weekend feel?use one of the football grounds. We are probably gonna have a combined attendance of less than 30,probably closer to 25k, imagine the game at one of the football stadiums and really well marketed,it would surely do more?more neutrals and it's at a good time, the football season is out so people want a live sport fix.

| Child has dragged Salford back into this game. Made a series of incorrect decisions which allowed Salford back in.

| I think Tomkins was not winning the race for the ball and interfered with the likely try scorer.
The Powel one, I dunno, Tasi seemed to turn in the tackle, Powel wasn't even looking, he spotted his contact point and then turned away during the tackle, in that second his contact point changed, so....accidental, unlucky for tasi I think.
