| Wigan every time; I'd rather have £100 in my hand than a chance on the National Lottery.
I'll watch the WC simply to marvel at the great talents of our antipodean cousins, world class players throughout the squad. We'll rely on 2 or 3 NRL standard players who would struggle to get a starting place in a City Country Squad.

But can you not see that unless we become competitive at International level we (as a game) will never get the funding or sponsorship that our great game deserves. If we don't we will get swallowed up by RU and their strong media/international coverage.

Do you honestly belive that winning the world cup of RL will make the slightest bit of diference to the national perspective of the game? Jack Wilshire smoking has been talked about more on sky sports news more than the grand final today!
We would need the rapture during the game to make a dent on the back page!

Yes, plus it would have an effect on the sport England funding.

| Those who frequent the VT will frequently see threads can posters saying how superior RU is as an international sport. The main reason for that is the fans care. If the majority of RL fans don't give a toss about England or international RL then why are the media, sport England or sponsors? No money means no sport, no sport means no Wigan.

| Well Sam Tomkins would give everything he ever won with us to win the WC and I agree with him.

| If you love the sport you will say England if you love the club you will say Wigan.
As much as I love Wigan, I love the sport and to see England win the World Cup is the ultimate for me.

Loving the sport I want to see Great Britain v Australia in an Ashes series again, with full stadiums of full paying spectators. Not a competition with teams made up of Australian and British players who don't quite cut the grade.

| Anyone who seriously thinks that England winning the world cup will be massive tabloid news is kidding themselves. It would probably get half a page 4 pages back in the mirror. The only game that will get any publicity what so ever is the opener and the final if its us versus the aussies. Dont get me wrong, I want England to win at everything but first and foremost im a Wiganer, and il take a Wigan win over wire or saints any day of the week over any England victory.
Im in the GB camp aswell, bring back the ashes and then we may get some publicity, look at cricket, the Ashes is far, far bigger than the world cup to both England and Australia.

Agree 100%, England is for football, cricket ,darts, etc, when it comes to Rugby League it should be Great Britain all the way.

Spot-on.
It'll never happen though until we're in no way dependant on Sport England's funding because of the incompetence of the current sponsorship organisers.
Plus you only have to look at the hype the yawnion fixtures have garnered this morning. World cup? what world cup?
(something I said would happen 12 months ago, but was shouted down)

I don't care how much news it would generate. A world cup win for England will be bigger than Wigans double this year for me and, apparently, for Sam Tomkins too.
