But the coaching staff who see these lads every day and know them inside out didn't think he was good enough. If Wane and Harris think Gelling is our best option then I'm willing to accept that.

| In the interest of fairness, it turns out Thornley's decision making after making a break is about as good as Gelling's! Thornley had his moments in attack and is a strong lad but just like Gelling he still has a lot to learn.

Like Gelling he aint a winger and thats pretty obvious.
Looks a prospect though.

Agreed. Decision making, and a lack of pace let him down tonight. Be interesting to see how he goes at right centre if Daz doesn't recover.
We're still looking for a left winger. Wonder if Russell will get a shot?

| I thought Thornley looked reasonably quick when he got up to speed but like a lot of big players it takes him a while to accelerate. I agree that for a winger he is a bit sluggish though.
If Goulding is out for the next game I think Gelling should be given a go at right centre. I don't think Thornley has played on the right that much so I'd imagine Gelling would be more comfortable.

He played quite a lot at right centre, with Charnley as his winger, they had a good partnership going.

Doubt it. We has a great team in the very early 70s - 69/70 and 70/71.

| For reasons only known to the coaching staff , King won't get anywhere near the first team . They choose the likes of gelling and thornley playing out of position ,before a natural winger who is faster than both gelling and thornley .

| I think Wane likes having one tall wingman in the team for the crossfield kick and sadly for him ,King is not as tall as Gelling or Thornley.

| Would Jack Murphy not be worth a shot if Goulding is out next week? He played very well against the Bulls and would seem to deserve another crack.
He's be my choice on the left wing with Thornley moving to right centre.

I have a horrible feeling that Wane will chose Jack Hughes for that centre position. It should be Gelling or Thornley imo.
It'll be interesting to see how Gelling goes in the U20's this afternoon v Cas.

What a dreadful thing!

| another option of course if to use matty russell who has now returned from loan.
I think hes probably next in line, one ahead of murphy on the waiting list.
given the lack of breaks from our back row last night, i would also like to see gelling get a spell on the bench as a back rower. the real positives from his time in the team so far has been his work rate and ability to make yardage.

I thought Russell had returned from his loan spell because he was injured? If Goulding doesn't play next week I think Thornley should move to centre with Gelling coming back in on the other wing, or perhaps Murphy.
