not our fault that we kept getting drawn against clubs who are incapable of hosting games against us.

| Quote: Deano G "If Wigan are unable to play Friday night because the games are determined by the BBC and therefore have to switch venues then this is just another aspect of a pretty lousy deal for RL from the supposed public service broadcaster.
I suspect any rugby club (of whatever code - Reading will be in the PL next season) would have to give priority to a premier league football fixture that was already in the diary.'"
the BBC have a contract, using taxpayers money, to show their pick of the Challenge Cup games that weekend. Its not their fault, or the RFL's fault if clubs cant fulfil fixtures on the agreed dates.

Why can't Huddersfield play Friday night? They are in the same predicament as you lot. someone said Catalan has to be on a Saturday as that is in their deal but that is for SL only surely. They played on Easter Monday on TV so why can't they play Sunday on TV. That then leaves Wigan Saints match which would have to be moved to another ground. It's one hell of a headache for BBC SKY and the RFL to sort out once again.

Having said that, if the match is being shown live in France anyway they could just have Dave Woods and John Kear sat in a cupboard over here commentating on it. No real need to send anyone over.'"
They could have jiffy davies offer his professional view on the game without watching it. As the crap he comes out with never reflects what is actually happening on the pitch.

We've drawn Wigan away and it should be precisely that, or it makes a mockery of the tournament.
Having said that, am I missing something? Surely it will just be Friday night on Sky?'"
BBC have the contract for first choice of games, and clearly this would be the first choice game. If the sport cant fulfil its contractual obligations to a broadcaster, it would surely have a financial impact on the RFL now and into future contract negotiations.

not really, in the logical order of the first dibs rules that will be in play to pick the games:
1) BBC Wigan Saints on Saturday
2) SKY Catalans Warrington Friday
3) BBC Leigh Leeds Sunday (aft)
4) SKY Hudds London Sunday (eve)
Wigan, Catalans, Leigh and Hudds then make the appropriate arrangements to host the game at the scheduled time.

It is the RFL's fault, it's a lousy deal.

| The RFL sure know how to schedule a cup competition. Made all the more a fare given the semi finals arent till July. The sooner Wood is ushered out the door at Red Hall, the better.

In what way? The whole cup should be scheduled around Wigan Athletic's fixtures?

OK, so you think this is just about Wigan.
So what would happen if the BBC demanded that Hudds play a fixture on a day the football club were due to play at home, or Hull FC to play when Hull City already had a home fixture? The same would apply to Salford sharing with Sale Sharks and London with whoever they are sharing with from time to time.
That's five clubs in SL, it's hardly just a problem for Wigan.
There must be something in the contract already to deal with the situations above and if it hasn't dealt with clubs with PL groundsharing issues as well (which could also affect say Hull conceivably) then the contract is not a good one.

It would be difficult to prepare the pitch from a 10 p.m. finish on Friday for a 12:30 start on Saturday.
Not impossible but difficult.
Saturday for Catalan is the most sensible for fans travelling to the game. I had my finger over the "purchase" button for Friday to Monday flights from Liverpool to Nimes when the draw was being made.
They were just £44 return at that point.

I know what you mean, the contract should probably say something like "in the event we can't stage the fixtures you've paid to broadcast, you just hand them over to SKY and deal with it OK?"
Or, alternatively, the clubs who know when the fixtures are to be played at the start of the year could make alternative arrangements in the event of a confict? Just a thought.
Anyway, I imagine this is a non-issue as I keep being told that Wigan RL and Wigan Athletic have equal rights and that IL has masterminded a wonderful lease - so I'm sure they'll get to play the game at the DW.

The problem won't be Wheelan not letting us play, it's Premier League rules. It's not an issue for you because the football team you groundshare with aren't in the Premier League.
