| I don't like having 4 forwards on the bench but with Gelling as an impact substitute he can cover both the back row and the three-quarters as well when Pat is back fit.

| We arent short in the back row and there is no reason for Gelling to be used as cover. Im really looking forward to seeing him over the next 11 weeks as cover for Pat. I for one think hes looking more solid defensively and his reading of the game is gradually improving. With ball in hand he looks a real threat and I really like his direct running when returning the ball from kicks. Really runs his weight

| The great thing about him is that his weaknesses are all fixable with good coaching and hard work.
Defensive positioning, his fitness and the like can be worked on where his natural attributes and ability can't. I said when he signed I hoped he turned out more Shontayne Hape then Doc Murray and it looks like it could work out that way.
He'll be turning out for England RU before long!!

| First time I've seen the lad play was last night. Doesn't look a natural player at all. What surprised me most was that he carried the ball constantly in his right hand, and very loosely at that. Raw or not, surely he should know how to hold and shield a ball?
Having watched Matty Russell tonight looking quite accomplished in a strange team, it will be interesting to see how both players develop.

23997_1287161421.jpg
Great game of rugby league. Fantastic atmosphere, Wigan were breathtaking and dominant in all areas for the first 25 minutes, coupled with us making alot of dumb mistakes, then fortunately they brought McIlorum on which helped us back into the game. I thought some of the tries we scored to get us within two we're out of this world stuff. Towards the end we had to force it a little and we had a few things go wrong, i.e Monas kick on the first for King and Solomona going off who was causing havoc. Wigan were clinical in their eventual execution of us. Proud of Wire today and gave us a little glimpse to the future. Silverwood was awful as per, but I expect no less. Tomkins is a world class player and by far the best english player in SL. Wigan are a champion side and would be a worthy winner of taking our title as challenge cup. Good luck over the next month and a bit.
:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_23997.jpg |

Disagree with all of this Gelling was outstanding last night he didn't take one step back running that ball in last night and was a thorn on the Hull kr players side
Ball carrying he had 2 hands on the ball v Fev but had it striped i dont mind what a player does if it works for them keep doing it

I dont remember him dropping a ball? He ran the ball in with full force to so if he had a dodgy carry it would of shown up imo. I thought he had a very good game and he will improve more and more imo. He seemed hard to put down and he was definatley better than when i saw him in Lockers testimonial game so hes going in the right direction.
Be very good to see how he does over the period that Pat is out.

| Although you don't judge wingers on metres made 242m is a great effort if Barrie was right on super league full-time and it reflects the amount of work he did.

Why though? Matty Russell ain't a winger, and Gelling ain't a FB. Why don't we just start comparing Sam to Pat? Totally different skill set.

2572.jpg Ah, good taste!
What a dreadful thing!
Taste is the enemy of creativeness.

but this is where Gelling impresses, because he isnt a winger. he's a centre playing out of position. therefore, to look good in a strange position, with new team mates and in a new country in good.
from what i have seen, he has all of the atributes to be a decent george replacement. in fact, with his ability to hold the ball in one hand, his wingman should look forward to a few offloads.
so long as he gets his attitude correct, i feel that he will be a good buy.

| I like a lot of what Gelling does but he needs to improve his fitness if he is going to be a full-time winger. Obviousl;y playing regularly will improve that but I think quite a few of the disallowed tries he's had in the last few two games were mistakes made due to tiredness, the second one against KR in particular

I agree with this.
The next post talks about him being a full time winger. Well, he isn't going to be a full time winger, he is going to be a full time centre but not this season!

| at least 100m saved the forwards having to do the work, with efforts like that it means that Hock and Co. should have more in the tank to make a bigger impact. let's hope he can do the same this Saturday

He got the MOTM in League Express.
I thought he looked pretty dangerous with ball in hand.
