I think Wigan have. Not the Grand Final but the equivalent - in the 1920s or sometime. I seem to remember at the Championship Finals at Wire last year when Oldham lost for the fourth consecutive year, the commentator pointed out that they joined Wigan in being one of only two clubs (at that time) which had lost four championships on the bounce. Of course, we joined the exclusive club just a week later.
I'm only going on what I remember the commentator saying; I haven't checked the accuracy. The comments on here about us losing four on the bounce just reminded me.

But I don't find reaching grand finals embarrassing. If we get there and are outplayed in the final, that will be disappointing and upsetting, but certainly not embarrassing.'"
Come on.
There comes a time when making the showpiece final isn't good unless you actually win. Constantly losing it is bad.
5 grand final defeats on the trot?
I don't think theres any team in ANY sport with a record like that. You'd go down in history as major grand final chockers, certainly the current mob would. It would be awful. Don't try and dress it up, ''at least we got there'' that doesn't wash when you lose that amount on the trot.
A team could make just one final and win more titles than you have over the past 4 years. WIN.
You must be scared that if you beat wigan, a formiddable wire lie in wait, or even bogey team leeds and a 5th defeat on the bounce is a prospect.

Correct,
Wigan lost 11 - 3 to Oldham in 1910, Oldham 20 - 7 in 1911, Huddersfield 13 - 5 in 1912, and Huddersfield 29 - 2 in 1913.
And before anyone asks, I didn't do the matchday reports.
But it's good of Saints fans to admit there was a game of Rugby League prior to 1996.

Do you not think thats a bit disrespectful considering they finished top of the tree with the attack and defence, you may dislike warrington but give credit where it's due

They still aren't our main rivals though are they? They could win a million trophies and Saints will still be our main rival.

| I'd rather beat Saints (any time, anywhere)
That's the way it is, and they feel the same, no animosity just great rivalry, and we'll have a beer after without any problems. Sadly for some reason it doesn't happen with Warrington.

Saints. Nothing to do with form as that goes out the window in a final. The fact is, there is no better feeling than turning Saints over (and no worse feeling than losing to them).
Like I said, whilst Wire may be our rivals for cups and the like, they will NEVER be a bigger rival than St Helens.

47035_1386433761.gif We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_47035.gif |

| I do like how the OP is more satisfied with a semi final loss than a GF loss.
I do hope he is giving the Wigan team talk.
Sadly I reckon not.
Either way it's going to be Saints by 12. don't ask how I know, but you know every team has their day in the sun, time for Wigan to return to the lower end of the top 8 now. Wire to follow suit next year.

Agree whole heartedly. And it annoys me somewhat that Wire bill themselves against Wigan as a derby. Rugby League in the North West has ALWAYS been about Wigan vs Saints. And probably always will. Arguing that Wire aren't pretenders to that rivalry is silly really, they never have, and never will be the Wigan Derby, and its nothing to do with who you'd rather play in the final, give me a choice between a Derby Final or an "A.N. Other" final, and i'll pick the derby final, it makes it more intense in the build up, during the game, and after.
Wigan vs Saints
Comical mutual banter on forums and in town
Mutual "hatred" in the stands through songs and chants, and a mutual desire to sell more than another to make it a sell out
Players given one message to beat the opposition and "that's all that matters"
Rubbing salt in the wounds of, or avoiding friends and colleagues for days after.
Wigan vs Wire
Personal insults on forums and in town
Spitting or throwing of missiles in the stands, or "keep out a pie" campaigns
No message to players aside from "play to win"
Tense atmosphere after a game regardless of the result.
Wigan vs Saints every time for me.
