I know, that win at Warrington was a run of the mill, utterly boring 22-20 win that was secured 50 seconds before the hooter.
You can call Wigan many things, but with our attack this year, boring isn't one of them.

| This thread is a joke!!!
Wigan fans you have totally over reacted!
Hethringtons interview is more of an enditment of blueys coaching. Leeds are/were pretty negative and not the best to watch under Bluey. I think GH comments are about Leeds first and for most. But he didn't complain when we were the best a wrestling in 07,08,09.
The pies reaction is a case of you do protest too much.
Leeds are far from a team in decline. Some good kids coming through, good home grown talent. 9 guys who will be over 30 at season end but Wigan will have 7.
Wigans title win was noway a fluke. Can they back it up and become the force in SL? Who knows? I think wire, Leeds and saints can do it as well as the champs. Personally I think wire look very stronger.

And who employed "Bluey" and extended his contract?
Which good kids coming through?
Please don't say McShane.
How many Leeds youngsters made the England team that beat the Aussies in December?
Leeds academy has been very poor for three or four years.
I do like the looks of Stevie Ward though.

| What a great competition it would make if all sides adopted different styles of play. It only becomes boring when all sides play the same way. If Leeds want to through it about and be adventurous then so be it. It'll be nice to see whether that style of play is the one to combat are own.
Me personally I've always preferred to see bruising defense over outstanding attack, it's just my preference.

Yorkshire
The only county in England where you can get a great shag, a delicious hotpot and a smashing jumper.
All from the same animal.

| So Gary Hetherington never interlinks his criticisms with a club or coach directly, but it would take a fool to not see who his fatuous comments are aimed at. It would be inane of Hetherington to come out completely and name X club and Y club. It would make him look (more) foolish and motivate other clubs, whilst also giving the impression he has a certain amount of trepidation towards how his team will fare in this upcoming season. However, please don't be naive about who he is commenting about. He doesn't need to name clubs/coaches. We all realise who is talking about. As the journalist rightly points out in the article"Hetherington launched a [ithinly-disguised criticism[/i of the defensive tactics introduced into Super League over the last three years by Australian coaches Michael Maguire and Nathan Brown at Wigan and Huddersfield respectively.
"The last few years in Super League has been dominated by an [iinflux of defensive coaching techniques[/i which effectively strangle the life out of the opposition," said Hetherington.
"Whilst these tactics are very effective, they do nothing for the spectacle and I would like to think all coaches could focus their skills on raising the standard of attacking play."'"
This is not the first time he has had spontaneous outbursts in the press either. rlhttps://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12387_6186138,00.htmlrl Comments that came after his side had won in the challenge cup against us.
His argument that these supposed 'negative tactics' ruin the game and have a greater focus on 'defensive' tactics are dumbfounded IMO. From watching Wigan last season I have witnessed more attacking flair, dexterity, greater skill levels and overall entertainment in that one season alone than I have seen over the last decade. We had players who topped all the try scoring, points charts, scored over 900 points collectively and amassed every single honour in Super League as a team and as a club. We're the best supported team in the league, which suggests that we play an exciting brand of rugby. We've also smashed viewing figures whenever we played last season too. All this evidence completely contradicts Hetherington's hypothesis that "they do nothing for the spectacle".
Quote: Hetherington launched a [i:3vfeynt4]thinly-disguised criticism[/i:3vfeynt4] of the defensive tactics introduced into Super League over the last three years by Australian coaches Michael Maguire and Nathan Brown at Wigan and Huddersfield respectively.
"Surely if Wigan dont use these tactics and they are the free-flowing rugby stars you pretend they are you should be supporting Hetheringtons statement, the fact you have all gotten so defensive about a journalists belief you do, shows your true opinion on whether or not your success was based upon these dark arts.'"
For sure, Wigan have a definite emphasis on defence. We do wrestle in the tackle and do (seem to, after all I'm not the coach) place an importance around the ruck. But tell me which teams in Super League don't? Is it not possible to do both AND show flair in attack in the same time?
Could you elaborate on the free flowing stars "you pretend they are" comment? The statistics, achievements, accolades and cold hard facts all suggest otherwise to what you've suggested. I don't support Hetherington's claims not because my team don't play expansive, fast-flowing, entertaining brand of rugby, but precisely because they do and so any vacuous criticisms of the 'brand of rugby' we play is ludicrous as his comments suggests.

That still makes no sense though if this is what Hetherington is getting at. (FWIW I think it would be naive to think that he isn't having a pop at other clubs too). I don't think I can put it any better than what 'Cherry.Pie' has doneEvery single Super League club practises some form of wrestling type tactics, you only have to watch them during the warm up to see what they are coaching their players to do.
Holding the man up in the tackle and slowing the ruck is no different to the act of turning the player round in the tackle so he can't play the ball quickly or getting your hands between the ball and the players arm during the tackle so that it looks like your arm is trapped. Every side employs tactics in defence designed to slow the game down or control the speed of the ruck. You can spot them pretty much after every tackle of every set of every game by every Super League team. Just because some are better than others doesn't mean what they're doing isn't just as bad.'"

Ha HA Ha Ha Ha HA Ha HA HA!
The Green Eyed Monster that makes normal rationale people(I presume) to start Frothing at the Mouth whenever Wigan are even remotely succesful has returned.
I even like the earlier disguised dig that Saints & Warrington have a good blend of attacking and defensive rugby whilst obviously intimating that Wigan don't!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm more surprised at some of us Wigan fans on here arguilg with these numpties!
Anyone could have told you that as soon as Wigan started winning that certain fans who hate all things Wigan would go Doo lally and lose all sense of rationale thought when the Name Wigan is mentioned!
Let em get on with it, say Nowt & keep winning.
I hope they are still trying to criticse fault and Hating all things Wigan for the next 10 years, if they are were probably still winning!

| It's funny really.
Last night on Radio Merseysides try time programme, both Brett Hodgson and Paul Clough were asked what they thought Royce Simmons would bring to Saints game.
Both said the same thing "better defence"
Nothing about "more attractive rugby"
DEFENCE.
It's in the second spot after 8 p.m.

| People should take a leaf of the the club's book when these things are thrown about ("thinly-disguised" or otherwise), say nothing and let others try to cover-up their own inadequacies by making a prat of themselves.
