they dont need to get involved in tit-for-tat arguments do they, they can still talk to the press. Unless Maguire doesnt trust his team could be 'diplomatic' enough to avoid saying something they shouldnt.

Maybe he is using the chatter from McClennan and Peacock as motivation for his players and doesn't want them to vent any of the aggression by spouting off in the press? Alternatively maybe he thinks that he doesn't have to defend them - in the same way that McClennan doesn't feel he needs to apologise for insinuating that Tommy L injured McGuire in back play in his post-match comments to Sky?
Maybe he thinks that by shutting out the press he is instilling a siege mentality in the Wigan dressing room - rather than having his players cry to any passing journalist they can find?
Maybe, just maybe he recognises the comments of McClennan and Peacock as the pathetic efforts to put his team off that they are - and doesn't feel them worthy of response?
He may well say something after the game - but then it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't. He doesn't seem to be a big fan of whining.

What's it got to do with you, or Leeds, if Wigan don't want to talk to the press before the match?
And look - don't wee down people's backs and tell them it's raining. We're really not that stupid. You've been sitting around at home waiting for someone at Wigan to make the sort of faux-pas that McLennan and Peacock have made. All this business about Wigan players being denied the right to speak, or Maguire not trusting them enough ( ) is juvenile crap-stirring.

So why ban his players from talking to the press at all unless he needs to wrap them in cotton wool to prevent them saying something they shouldnt.
Wigan players should be more than capable of talking to the press without saying something they shouldnt. Banning them from doing so is a pretty clear statement he doesnt believe they can.

It seems one team trusts its players to say what they want and are comfortable it wont affect them, another clearly isnt.
Maguire clearly doesnt trust his players speaking in public or he would allow them to do so.

How do you know?
Or yet again is this how things 'seem' to be?
The fact that you're okay with what your lot said speaks volumes about you. As does the fact that you went looking to find out what was said at the Wigan press conference.

He's obviously left Leeds to do that and simply risen above it.

I cant see what leeds have said which is anything other than a little bit of pantomime, its not like they have said a player deserves an injury or anything. It seems a bit of an over-reaction to stop players talking to the press.
at the very very least it shows that McClennan and Peacocks pantomime has affected them.

It shows Madge like to do his talking on the pitch and he doesn't respond to those under pressure.

Obviously disappointed he couldn't stir at this morning's press conference as Madge wouldn't lower himself to that level.
Of course that also means the pressure is getting to Wigan as they're ignoring the Whinos whine like little girls.'"
Thnx Andy.

Apart from reading in a tweet from a journalist in your favourite newspaper - has this actually been confirmed?
I mean; the daily mail ALWAYS tells the truth and is never ever wide of the mark. Heaven forbid they make up a non-story - is Princess Diana on the front cover of today's edition by any chance?
Anything said to the press by the Wigan camp is going to be seized upon by the press - precisely because nothing has been said to date. Why dial up the tension and potentially turn what should be a classic game of RL into something that will be remembered for all the wrong reasons? I thought that Wigan were the dirty team and that leeds only wanted to play rugby? If so, then you should be applauding someone trying to prevent the game from becoming an 80 minute penalty-a-thon.
Maguire has spoken to the press and because he has some class and not started saying how the bloke who cleans the boots was really disappointed by McClennan's post match comments on sky or how Riddell rescues stray kittens in his spare time and sends present to all the other players in the league on their birthdays - there is nothing for people like you to pick holes in. Maguire knows that journalists will be desperate to quote something out of context (as they did with the Sinfield interview) to dial it up and sell more copy/get more hits. So rather than have his players worry that they might make a mistake when speaking to the press (take a bow Peacock); he has taken it out of their hands to let them concentrate on what they are paid to do.
The Wigan camp want to let the rugby be do the talking - rather than see the game descend into a soap opera style cat-fight in the press. If you think that's dull, then that's up to you. What I really think is that you want someone to say something stupid like McClennan has, so you can start all the "Wigan are cracking under the pressure" talk; which has been coming leeds' way so far.
Let leeds keep talking - it reminds me of Hasim Rahman ahead of his rematch with Lennox Lewis.

you are confusing two things, responding directly to McClennans and Peacocks comments and talking to the press at all.
You would expect Wigans players to be able to talk to the press and avoid or be diplomatic in their response to McClennan and Peacock. The only reason to stop them talking at all would be he didnt trust them to not say something they shouldnt in response to McClennan and Peacock. Wigan are the only team to have their preperation affected by it.
