Says who? I will remember watching a fantastic season of RL played by Wigan rewarded with a trophy whatever happens next. In contrast we have in the past few seasons got to the semi final after some very poor league campaigns and I for one do not think winning three or four games in an end of season knock-out makes up for being short changed over 27 rounds. Cups are one off games and the GF is a cup competition.
The idea you can be poor for a whole season yet this can all be forgotten if you win a short knock-out competition has always been an example of the emperors new clothes syndrome at its best. I can't beleieve people fall for it. Unless you watch every league game and don't give a stuff about any of the results then the league is an important competition. And if you really don't give a stuff about the league why bother going at all? Save your money and only watch the play offs. And just for the record I posted the same thing in 1998 on Usenet when we won it.

| I thought it was disappointing to be honest.
Good following by Leeds on Sunday night though.

| I'm not familiar with the pricing structure at Wigan - how does the average price of a 2010 season ticket for Adults, Concessions and Juniors compare to the price for the Leeds game yesterday? Is the price the only factor or do the club run other regular season incentives such as freebies?
I know it will never happen but the most useful data clubs could publish would be match ticket revenue per game. It is the most important and telling statistic.

| If you go by the history though, playoff crowds have never been supported well and have always been lower than the original league game. Look at the crowd at Hull on Sat night compared to the league game.

| So the crowd at the game was announced as 12,500 yet the official reported crowd was 9,987?
Are the gate receipts split 50/50 between Wigan and Leeds?

I thought gate receipts of al play off games go into a big pot and each side gets an equal cut.

It was an equally, if not worse turnout by the natives of Wigan, with plenty of spaces across the three "home" stands.
Anyway, who gives a toss about how many fans travel across the Pennines. Given that you're the one with the bee in your bonnet about it, perhaps you could enlighten us? It's not our job to fill your ground and the evidence will show that Leeds didn't need the extra support last night.

The only freebie season ticket holders get is a free ticket to an early challenge cup round if at home. There are incentives like the time the club just about filled the north stand v Quins with cheap or free tickets to Heinz employees.
For season ticket holders there is a concession of £3 off the price of a play off game if you book early enough. I got mine today on-line for £23 plus £2 booking fee. That is for one adult and one junior so normal price for an east stand play off ticket is £12 junior and £17 adult as opposed to £9 and £14 with the discount. I think its quite steep after a seasons support. Spoke to one chap on leaving on Friday who said it was going to cost him another £80 this week to watch us v HKR.

| if you ask me - and i' haven't read half of this topic - but a home play off tie is a BONUS home game for the club / owners / whatever. any home tie in the CC or play offs isn't part of the clubs initial financial plans at the start of the season surely as there is no way to guarantee them before a ball is kicked at the start of the season.
why not charge half price tickets to all home fans and maybe the same, if not a little discount for the away support and get it rammed? even if it was 12k last night that is still a very poor attendance if you ask me considering the importance of the game.
why on earth i got random seats via the website when i booked online in the middle of nowhere in the west stand, albeit in the middle of a group of leeds fans as well, is beyond me

It's not sporting life. It's the press association that will have got it wrong. They feed most media outlets like Sporting Life who takes its reports from them and it just rolls around to everywhere incorrectly.

29281_1270406980.jpg When Maurice sold me to Leeds something changed, it just not the same, the passion inside me just wasn’t the same as running out at Central park for my hometown club.
We need a change of culture here; we don’t want to be just happy with playing ok on Saturday at St Helens.
Ill make sure that from now on things will change, that players will be under pressure and will train a lot harder than they have before.
