Yeh his players would have hidden the ball under their wheelchairs and hit it with their walking sticks but then again they would never be leading in the first place

No, our full back just can't tackle, at least he can catch and is a dangerous attacker. Yours physically can't do anything of merit. We really missed Gleeson tonight, very shrewd swap that was.

| Can't disagree with you there - Mathers plus £100k for a centre who never wanted to be at Wire in the first place, we were laughing all the way to the bank - sometimes it's a case of wrong time & place for a player and that was certainly the case with those two.

Ok we lost and yet we will still be top of the league by at leats 2 points. It was a poor performance, but we just have to get on with it. I hope we have a few more guys back next week or we could struggle again.'"
Other teams love watching Wigan lose, especially like last night for the simple reason of how many of us can remember the years of your full time professionalism & dominance of the sport & how you are "The Mighty Wigan" - that and your association with Uncle Mo. It's one of those facts like everyone likes watching Man Utd fail embarrassingly in Europe or get knocked out of the FA Cup at home by Leeds. Jealousy has much to do with it over the years I have to admit - however that doesn't make it any less funny.

| Lessons learned from last night;
- Quins are a much better side now with most of their key players back as opposed to the injury hit whipping boys of earlier in the season. Credit where it is due for the second half performance.
- Players have to remain in their best position - Lockers is a top class 13 in attack / defence, but is wasted and largely ineffective at stand off.
- Bailey is no longer a functional SL centre due to his lack of pace and is in decline defensively.
- The jury is still out on whether Ainscough can ever develop an appropriate positional sense to be a good SL winger.
- Gleeson, Goulding and Coley are very underrated in terms of their overall contribution to Wigan this season, particularly in solidifying the defence and were hugely missed.
- Roberts has been a greater loss than I imagined he would be - the attack just doesn't seem anywhere near as dynamic.
- We have a really talented set of young players - but some are not physically or mentally ready to have the responsibility of a starting role in SL just yet and shouldn't be rushed.

yep.. that 100k sure came in handy for buying Ryan Atkins.

I hate it when fans spout this nonsense - Ainscough & Kev Penny are two incredibly exciting wingers with pace to burn & an ability to finish for fun. There are few enough players in RL these days who get a crowd on their feet when they have the ball - Sam Tomkins is one (not the best defender), Kyle Eastmond another (a rugby freak the like of which not seen since Jason Robinson), Ainscough & Penny are two more & really should not be allowed to leave the sport or SL because they "can't defend".
You didn't make that complaint when Martin Offiah was scoring tries for fun did you?

Why is it nonsense? A winger is no use to a team if he is consistently out of position in both defence and attack. His combination with Bailey, particularly in defence was truly woeful last night.
As I said the jury is out with Ainscough, as it is with Kevin Penny, as to whether they will ever be top level SL wingers. At this point in time, Darrell Goulding is a much better option than Shaun Ainscough for Wigan when available.

To even compare Ainscough and Penny to Offiah at this point in their career is laughable. Offiah had his defensive failings no doubt, but was on a different planet to them in attacking terms.

Does not look like it
A few on here felt that game was a "Blessing in disguise" as it wouldn't happened again and Wane would have them running laps naked at 6 am to get the message home.

If the lesson is having a flattering scoreline at half time, then being beaten by the better side in the second half...then no. Certainly wasn't down to a lack of effort this time.
Quins at pretty much full strength are a completely different proposition to the depleted whipping boys of early in the season and were never going to be easy beats especially when we had half a team missing. So it proved.

Unfortunately nobody seems to have caught on to the fact that Bailey, as long as he has played here, has been wasted as a centre. Any winger playing outside him has no chance of seeing the ball in a season. Calderwood never got any service from him and neither has anybody else since, when he has been at centre.

I'm just wondering who that's directed at? Granted Walker did on some occasions look a little frail last night, but I'm struggling to think of anyone else that applies to. Ainscough should now be able to come in and do the job asked of him.
