| Quote: cadoo "I disagree. I think we are a more dangerous team with Roberts at fullback than Cameron Phelps and that's not taking a swipe at Phelps because he has done well for us so far this season, but in open play Amos Roberts is outstanding. He is a player you want to see with his hands on the ball and so fullback makes a lot of sense. He has played in the halves before in Australia so he has the distribution skills to setup and create tries as his three try assists show. He has six to his name this season and all have come when he has been playing at fullback. Phelps is good, but he couldn't score some of the tries that Amos Roberts can and has been scoring. I know who I would be more afraid of if I was defending against Wigan.
His stats against Castleford were immense.
Tries - 3
Assists - 3
Metres - 202
Carries - 18
tackles - 3
Busts - 8
Breaks - 4
Phelps needs to get fully fit IMO because at the moment he is clearly struggling.'"
I agree, some seem to think Phelps is an assist machine because he has thrown some eye catching passes linking in the line and while his form has been excellent I feel Roberts is better suited at 1 at the moment. Roberts links well in the line, and is still a good at it even if he does not throw the eye catching ball, his dynamic running though causes the defences so much more trouble then Phelps so he needs to get his hands on the ball as much as possible in space and for me that is going to happen more at 1 than on the wing.
As it is given our squad though i would perhaps agree for balance that Phelps at 1 and Roberts at 2 is the best call, but what will be interesting is what happens from 2011 and beyond. There are some major questions regarding the future of Phelps and Ainscough that will be answered at the end of this season/start of next i feel.

| Just noticed, every single person has voted for Famous Amos as MOM, has this happened before?
Great stats! He played a part in all the tries!
Phelps is a great FB and probably does need some more fitness. Roberts looks a thread every time he gets the ball and I am happy with him at FB for now.
If Phelps does return on friday, would it be worth switching them around like wingers do in football?
I am still pretty sure Phelps is the best FB at the club though, but it's great that we can easily put another great player at the back if we have injuries.

| Amos could be one of if not the best wingers in the world right now. I know some will scoff at that but he's in some quality form at the moment and I still don't think there are that many quality wingers knocking around at the moment.
Has any club in SL got a back three as good as ours? The closest when fit and on form is Webb, Donald and Hall but how often do those three play at the same time?

We certainly have the two best wingers in super league at the moment. 20 tries between them in 7 games! We won't lose many games with such consistant point scoring.
Phelps at the backend of last season and the start of this season was better than Webb IMO, but he still has some way to go to match someone like Webb at his best.

| This is the first chnace i've had to post since the Cas game and i've just got to agree with whats been said really. What a preformence from Amos and what a true joy it is to watch him at the moment.
That was probably the most electric preformence we've seen from a Wigan player since the days of Jason Robinson. He was unplayable and had a huge hand in us securing the victory. He had an ok-ish year last year and I wasn't one to sl*g him off anyway but I didn't see quite this standard of form coming. I thought he would improve to a point but not to a level like this.
Phelps is still the best no1 at the club though. He links play up between the halfs and outside backs fantastically well. I also don't see a reason why we can't have Roberts attacking around the middle from deep anyway. I'd just shift everybody on that right hand side accross one place when we have ball in hand in our own half and let Roberts float around the middle.

It does feel like a new signing. We're a completely different side going forward and back - we now have runs from dummy half, runners from deep, support play on breaks. It's incredible to watch the difference.

Support play is a big one for me. We were so frustrating at times over the past few years because we simply didn't get enough men supporting the ball carrier but that really has changed now.
A big example of our improved support play came on Sunday at Cas when Roberts broke the line for Tomkins second try. He literally had 3 or 4 players right up in support with him which is fantastic because to keep up with Roberts is no mean feet and that shows the desire of the players to get through the line.

It will be really important on friday because we must convert our chances. When we make clean breaks we need to be scoring.
I think Leeds may gift us a few tries though, they have been making so many errors.

I think Leeds will be really tough to beat on Friday night tbh. They will be up for this game bigtime to try and show everybody that they're still the best side in the competition.
We'll have to produce possibly our best preformence of the season to beat them imo.
