| Quote: - Neil - "He is a classic scrum half. An Andy Gregory type. Not a runner but someone who could organise, had good vision and could pass [i[i][i][i]a ball better than anybody else in the game....
Andy Greg was awesome at taking the line on. Often dummied then went through a gap he's created, his scoots were a big part of his game.
You say we played him at 6? Very rarely was Tim the second receiver, we usually played split halves with Tommy controlling one side of the pitch and Tim the other.
Remember the interview with Tommy at the start of the season outlining how they will be able to play together as they operate split backs.
I said this in the winter, so, if I saw this then why couldnt Nobby see it?
By no means am I defending (apt) his poor defence. It was terrible almost unforgivable but a month or so in the reserves sorted him out and he came back and put a string of about 3 or 4 belting performances together.
The last good game he played for us was against Saints at Murrayfield. He did what Barrett never managed to do he tore Saints apart. Credit where it is due he was awesome and it made you wonder that if he can do that he can do anything.
After the Saints game it went slightly downhill again. The Hull KR game stood out for me, it was a tough, close, hard fought game. We played well that day but Smith did not want to know which lost us the game IMO.
Tim Smith's has an ability that is a rare thing these days. The skill levels are declining in Rugby League and I thought given his flaws it was good for the game that he was about, cos his attacking ability was something else.
People are right when they say he will not be missed, he won't because he had vital flaws to his game and we as an average team cannot afford to carry those flaws.'" [i][/i

| Quote: Jack Kerley "I bet you can't name another Aussie young player of the year who couldn't tackle, never broke a tackle, and generally looked petrified every time he took to the field.
An truly awful player, in all respects. He brought nothing, and his leaving means nothing in terms of team performance.
And please don't regale me with tales of his "Awesome" passing ability, because I just don't buy it.'"
As usual Jack you change things again.
Here's what you said.
Quote: Jack Kerley "Show and go?
When did Smith ever go?
He is one of the worst players I have ever seen in a Wigan shirt.'"
I merely pointed out that he wasn't.
Unless you are very young, which I don't believe you are you must have seen far worse players than Smith play at Wigan.
Paul Koli, Mark Reber etc.

I said, as you have repeated, that he is ONE of the worst players I have seen at Wigan.
Are you having trouble even understanding what you are posting?
Neither Koloi, nor Reber came with the reputation that Smith did, so the disappointment was not as great.
Please try to keep up.

Again, you change things.
Now it's his reputation.
There are a lot worse players than Tim Smith that have played for Wigan.
Do you agree?
A simple yes or no will do.

| There have been far worse players than Smith in recent years.
That is a depressing thought because Smith isn't a very good player. He's very good at passing - when on form - but not very good at tackling or running at the line.
I can't believe anyone would refer to him and Andy Gregory in the same sentence, unless its to point out how much Smith needs to improve to be a great player.

I repeat, yet again, Smith is ONE of the worst players I have ever seen at Wigan.
Nowhere have I stated that he is THE worst player I have ever seen at Wigan.
I will state now for the cheap seats that my views on Smith do not in any way prejudice what my views might be on any other poor player that Wigan have had in the last 30 years.
Is this clear to you now?
I have not changed anything, in any of my posts since I claimed that Smith was ONE of the worst players I have ever seen at Wigan.
I truly do hope you wake up enough to understand this stance.
thank you.

You can take it as whatever you like, as you don't seem to be able to make sense of a simple statement.
Tim Smith is ONE of the worst players that I have ever seen at Wigan.
Where does it say that he is THE worst player ever to play for Wigan? Where does it say that there are no worse players ever to have played for Wigan?
I'm sorry, but I fail to see how I could have been any clearer.

But surely that depends on HOW many you are comparing him against.
10, 20, 50, 100.
As I said I can name 20 worse players than Tim Smith who have played for Wigan.
But I also don't believe he has been one of our better ones.

| When watching Smith you could see ever so faint sparks of a great player, however those sparks were few and far between, plus his defensive frailties particularaly in the early games of the season were nothing short of shocking. As for hiding his defensive weaknesses I though Gleeson did a good job of it, but in the end the guy didn't do enough offensively to warrant being in the team. I for one will be very interested to see how he goes in the NRL next year, and whether he improves in all area's.

| Are people actually arguing in here about people's opinions on a player? Never seen that before!!
If it's someone opinion, it's simply that, how can that be an argument?

I agree. How people can try and defend his performances this season I will never know. Defensively he is the worst RL player I have ever seen. Yes in attack he has a good pass but thats about it. However even at this his good pass is nullified due to the fact that he has no running game at all, and an average kicking game, which thus makes him very predictable. Hopefully after what has happened with Smith, Mathers and Pryce, Lenegan will finally realise that these cheap risky signings are precisely that for a reason.
