| Quote: NickyKiss "I'd be very suprised if Saints don't find the cash to make an offer for him tbh. I know there fans are saying they won't because of money and the fact that they have Smith and Eastmond but Saints have a history of battling it out for high profile British players when they become available for money transfers and when it comes to Smith/Eastmond i'm not sure Potter is convinced by either(and rightfully so tbh).
My money would be on Wire but i'm not counting out Saints by any means just yet.
As for us i can't see it tbh.'"
Potter seems to be giving Eastmond the chance now - so its a bit soon to know whether he will be able to hold down the spot next year and into the future.
I just dont think that Saints have the spare cash to pay a trasfer fee now, the only way we can realistically sign him is at the end of next year when he will be out of contract.
Other than that, the only way I can see Saints being involved is to force the price up that Wire / Wigan have to pay for him.

Eastmonds getting a shot now which is good but i suppose he has to prove his fitness over a longer period then just a few weeks but he is the hope as he's a top class talent. I'd be very suprised if Matty Smith makes it at Saints tbh.
I just wouldn't be suprised if you enter any bidding for Myler but we'll see i suppose. Maybe like you say they just will to push up the price.

| Quote: Cruncher "Valid reasons
There are two money issues when signing a player like Myler. Any transfer fee involved and how much he wants wages wise.
The latter ought not to be a problem in competing with the favourites (Wire) to sign him as they have plenty of high profile players and so its obvious they do not have a bottomless pit of money to offer him. They work to the salary cap as well and we have several players off contract at least one of which is supposed to be on a high wage.
So its all to do with how you place a value on a young talented scrum have who could be here for 10 years alongside Sam T. The chance to get a British half back (don't forge the federation trained rules are starting to have an effect) seems to me to one where you ought to push the boat out a bit.
The same applies to the transfer fee. Well worth the chairman dipping into his pocket for the above reasons.
Quote: Cruncher "b) We may already have a new half lined up who you don't know about (again, just saying we haven't got one won't cut it - you simply don't know).'"
He might but you don't don't know he has and unless this mythical player has signed I would hope IL would peruse Myler instead because he is clearly available.
Quote: Cruncher "c) We may feel that having two inexperienced halves is not a good plan (feel free to disagree, but the pros in this field may take a different view, and they'll be the ones IL will listen to, not you).
'"
Our team is a mess IMO and we won't fix it by signing an experienced (read old) pro scrum half for two or three seasons. Sometimes young players are actually as talented as they are made out to be, ready for playing week in and week out and so on. I see nothing to suggest Myler does not fall into this bracket and it isn't as if we don't have more experienced cover with TL signed up already.
Quote: Cruncher "d) There may be a concern that Sam will feel his place is being threatened, and get unsettled, which in turn may unsettle his brothers (you may know the Tomkins family, but it's unlikely you have a professional relationship with them, whereas IL does).
'"
Talk about pure speculation! Where have you dreamt this one up? The idea would be to play them in the same team alongside each other. Why would he get upset?
Quote: Cruncher "Those would be four valid reasons straight off the top of my head. '"
Valid reasons? The first one (money) is obviously valid, the rest are born out of imaginary situations you have dreamt up, i.e. we may have signed a player, some experienced pros (who?) may disagree, Sam T may get upset (that's a classic).
Quote: Cruncher "Just because you say the chairman lacks courage, that doesn't mean it's true. It could just as easily mean that you have a personal bee in your bonnet, which is divorcing your thinking from reality. But if it's any consolation, you aren't alone in that.'"
I don't think you have a great hold on reality yourself given the speculation in your "valid" reasons for not signing him.
There may well be valid reasons for not signing him but I can't see any obvious ones apart from the money side of it. The upshot is we have the chance to create a half back partnership that could give us the stability in these two key positions for years to come.
Instead of thinking for reasons why we ought not to do this simply to defend the chairman, have you not even considered it might be a great signing to make?

| Unless anyone knows for a FACT where Myler is going why bother going on about him going to Wire or Wigan.
Somebody step up and make the call, and justify how they know for a FACT.
Sick of all the BS.

Offiah, Mylers agent, has said he is not going to sign an new deal with Salford when his contract expires at the end of next season and even though he is contracted to them for another year Offiah has also said that could change.
Those are the facts. The rumour is Wire are favourites to sign him. The debate is should we try to.
I am struggling to see the BS here.

Then you need to read several other posts. Many saying Myler IS going to wire, many saying Offiah WILL get to sign for Wigan.
Maybe now you will see in.

I think there'd be problems with this signing. I've said in other threads that I wouldn't turn the lad down. He's undoubtedly a talent. But having two inexperienced halfbacks is not ideal, especially if one of them has cost you a lot of money (and especially if you've already made a deal with someone else - which you can't deny because you simply don't know).
As for the ideas I've dreamt up, fine. You stick with your 'IL is crap' alternative - after all, it's a point you've been hammering since he took over the club (but it's no less a piece of guesswork than my explanations).
However, given that the Salary Cap now renders all clubs equal, and that Wigan no longer have a monopoly on recruiting top talent, I think it highly possible that Wire will pip us here. So if I were you, I'd book your place on the parapet at the top of your office block right now. Because the way some of you lot go on, I'm sure the next 'big signing we miss 'will lead to suicides.

Maybe I am... I just wish I'd have come on here last week when I found out about Hock... perhaps my comments would have carried more weight... but obviously... with the kind of issue we have with Hock, then topics end up being deleted or locked until official statements.

| Myler is a Wire, has been agreed for months with Myler, contracts are not worth the paper there wrote on.

| Both Wigan and Warrington have had bids accepted. Myler has indicated his first preference is to talk to Wigan.
