Mentioned him on another thread has a massive rep, him and Kearney linked with the Roosters spot, both will be fielding first team coaches jobs in the not too distant.
He also has some clue about the conditioning side which i think will ensure we recruit wisely in this area as well.

I saw your post on the other thread after I stuck his name up. From what I can gather he is the actual assistant to Bellamy (rather than Kearney) in that he takes control when Bellamy is on SOO duty. Kearney was definitely first choice for IL but TBH I would be happy to give this guy a shot at the job. Hell, if they announced it now I might even think about watching them again next season!

He certainly ticks a lot of boxes, doesn't he. Whether he'd come or not remains to be seen.

His contract is up at the end of this year but he was in the running for the Brisbane job when Bennett left. He pulled out of the running to see out his contract with Melbourne. I suppose the issue is, if he's as highly thought of as some articles seem to suggest will he get a job as head coach in the NRL?

| Quote: Big Steve "As with many things. there is probably no clear right/wrong here.
Any club looking to improve should always be looking to improve and cubs like wigan have always said that they will consider a top player if and when they become available.
So until things are signed on the dotted line then nothing is certain (and even then it still isn't).
There's nothing wrong with IL sounding out future coaches or players, it doesn't always mean they will be offerred a job, or the current coach player will be replaced.
these things don't happen sequentially, ask one player/coach if he's available, start negotiations, one party backs out, start process again, etc. It doesn't happen like that.
I'm sure IL is finding out who's available in the marketplace, (and this will involve a number of players/coaches who will never get near signing) and then deciding whether they will strengthen the team, whether that's a coach or a player.
Then there will be further discussions to see whether a deal is possible, then further discussions to see whether both parties see eye to eye, then further discussions to finalise a deal and finally sign a contract. All the time both parties will keep options open.
The stephen kearney situation looks like it didn't go beyond the initial enquiry of 'are you available?' stage.'"
If its ok for IL to sound out new coaches then what happens if he cant get anyone and then Noble does what i think hes done or will do in the near future. Line up a job at another club.
Not only will we have practically the same squad as now we will not have a coach. There are ways of doing this and its not to sound out a person that IL thinks is better and then if he does not he then hopes Noble will stay.
IL was supposed to stabalise the club and plan for the future. This is not the way to stabalise the club.

So what should IL have done then?

In my opinion he should either give Noble a new contract. Or if hes going around sounding out other coaches he does it proffesionally by ensuring all negotiations remain private. It helps no one for these to come out.
IL needs to realise there is a massive difference in running the Quins to us. Whatever happens with us its going to get into the media sooner rather than later. Unlike Quins who can do this type of an approach as its not going to get into the media as easily and quickly.
IL has a choice if he thinks Noble is good enough he gives him an extension if not fire him. He needs to stop wasiting the future of the club on a chance he might be able to get a new coach.
Remeber whan Lam retired we were going for Johns, Lockyer etc we ended up with Moran as we had no other choice. The way IL is going on were going to end up in a much worse situation than we are in now.

Guess it's same as you were tho.

Then it's good for Wigan as he'll be setting the new coach up well.

If the coach is not performing then he fires him. Not keep him just incase we dont get anyone. By doing that we will get into trouble.

I know it's going over old ground again, well the past 3/4 pages anyway, but Wigan didn't leak the "discussions" with Kearney, Kearney's agent did. From the reports all I can see is Wigan asked if he'd be interested in being head coach. No formal approach or contract offer was made.
I genuinely can't see what IL has done wrong here. He's approaching coaches to replace Noble, that's all. If he doesn't approach people then he won't get anyone. We're apparently approaching props for next year but nobody is getting their knickers in a twist about Coley's feelings.

Fire him and replace him with who?
Maybe the coach we want for next season won't come until next season. Who takes over until then?

I would have thought trying and get as high up in the table as possible was a given when it comes to being head coach.
Noble has also been rumoured to have applied for several other jobs during his time at Wigan.
I'm surprised that everyone thinks this is a new practice - Maurice Lindsay made no secret of the fact that he had lined up Stuart Raper long before eventually sacking Endacott in 2001, but I don't remember a particular outcry about it back then...
