He should be at the expense of Joel Tomkins if everyone is fit although i get the feeling we may be missing a couple through injury after that bruiser last week.

| does anyone know sams preferred position. we know he will play anywhere to get in the team but the only time i spoke to him which was last season he said he wanted to be a scrum half not a stand off.
as for smith taking his place i would not let smith in wigan never mind in the team.

So Pryce, Riddell and Roberts plus some pay rises for the younger players took up the fortune we are supposed to have paid Barrett, Higham and Calders? People suggest these three were all on mega bucks but the quality of the recruits since they left suggests otherwise to me.
Unless of course we are paying too much for those three "new" players.

So we have to use up all the cap space of the players that left? Or maybe we've got some slack to use if/when the right player becomes available?

| There may also be some payments made to cover the termination of Barretts contract.
IIRC any termination payments get included in the salary cap calculation.

I doubt it. He left us and we will have paid his contract up until he left.

It Did!
We negotiated a "Back Heavy" contract meaning he got most of his money in year 3.
Wigan were happy to do this as they were struggling with the cap in year 1&2 of his contract.
for example - instead of getting 150k x 3 years
He got 100k - 100k - 200k
When the decision was made to leave after 2 years he (Rightly IMO) should have had 2/3rds of his money paid to him when he in fact had been paid less than half of his 2 year wage.
This meant instead of having paid him 300k for 2 years we had paid him only 200k.
This meant that we had to pay him the extra 100k this year.
PS
The numbers I have quoted above are only Hypothetical but I do know that it is quite a substantial amount "Hung Over" that we have had to pay him.

| As I heard it he had a three year deal with some sort of bonus attached to it on completion. He did not complete the full three year term, but a settlement may have been made to cover part of the payment.
It's pure speculation BTW, but quite believable.

| I love they way people on here think they know how much these players earn. Not one person on here knows how much the players are on its all just pure speculation.

Personally i find it unbelievable, but can see it happening. Only in our sport can a player enter into a 3 year contract decide after 2 he had had enough and walk way expecting further payment, not only that it is also the second time he has done it. Were it the club wanting shut then fair enough but given it is the player that is a very different story.
The clubs must be carzy for leaving themselves as open to this.

Jukesays was using the figures for illustration purposes. I had heard a similar story in that we had to pay Barrett a "completion" payment at the end of his contract.
All we are saying is that this "payment" would have to be included in the salary cap.
Remember Luke Davico.
He never played a Suerleage game for Wigan, but we had his wages count on the cap for that season. Slightly different scenario I agree.

If ever I've quoted a figure for soemone's earnings it is because I got the info directly from the person who signed them. That, my friend, is a fact, not speculation.
