| There’s no doubt that steel we show at this time of year is ingrained in the players from the days of Maguire and then Wane. I do wonder how much influence Matty Peet has had on it as well with him coming back to the club mid season. I think the three young lads take a lot of credit as well for the influence they’ve had since coming in. They’ve been 100 miles a minute since coming in to the side and it’s lifted everybody.

| Funny how all praise for the teams success is all down to Lam. But, for some, all Wanes success was down to Madge...

| Madge was undoubtedly responsible for turning the club around. No question. I don’t however think Madge will ever be a coach that has a long stay at any club.
Wane brought with him a fantastic passion for the club and knowledge of the club, and whilst his on field tactics may not have been the most entertaining he got results and ultimately that is what his time at Wigan will be judged on.
Lam...who knows? We won’t really be in a position to judge till next year fully, however after struggling initially to put his stamp on the team he seems to have done that now and early signs look very positive.
Last night in the first half I felt particularly was a very Wane style performance. One out grind out a result, win the arm wrestle. Second half I felt the lads came out with an instruction to speed the game up, move away from the arm wrestle and play a bit of rugby. The performance then spoke for itself.
I know it didn’t come off but I loved the philosophy of Williams chip for Burgess near our own line. Great to see.
Madge and Wane have both been fantastic for our Club. Lam, too early to say, however given the difficult circumstances in which he took on the job and where we are now, he may very well go on to be regarded as the best of the lot.

| The King is dead. Long live the King.
The culture of the club has been developed over decades. SW played a significant part in that but the club moves on and not much point in continually looking backwards.

| Big difference with Lam and Wane is with ball in hand we look lethal inside 20 yards from the line.
Wane deserves all the credit for what he did from 2012 to 2018. Same as Lam deserved the hammering he got for the start of the season, he deserves all the credit for what has happened and for what will happen next season.
But Madge deserves the most credit he changed Titanic's course and missed that iceberg that was in our way every September-October from 1999-2009.

Am I right in remembering that happened when we were 12 ahead, plenty time left, then having built up lots of pressure in our half and only 4th tackle? I love exciting play but I was cursing him for that to be honest!

It 100% wasn’t the right play, although it very very nearly came off and I actually think Burgess could have done better with it, however it shows the freedom and confidence that Lam has given his players.
It really made me smile after what was a fairly woeful first half.

With the pace we have the kick behind is a weapon that should be used more, the chip could have been a kick deep for Burgess to chase, it is good to see players playing head up rather than follow a strict game plan.

| Of course the Wane influence is still there. Most of those players played under him for a long time, some their entire career. However you can't blame Lam when things are going badly and then credit Wane when we go 12 from the last 13. Lam has done an excellent job in steering this ship from the choppy waters of early season. We're now confirmed in 2nd with a good crack at the GF ahead of us. That's down to Lam, his coaching staff and the players themselves.
I said at the game last night that we'd approach this game in play off mode, and so we did. Dogged and aggressive in the first half which stifled and frustrated the opposition, then opening up and using our superior pace in the 2nd. We've seen it before many times and we know how effective that is in bringing home the trophies. I've said it for a while now; we'll have a big say in where the trophy goes come October.

| Can’t under estimate the importance of Matty Peet even just from an extra support unit for Lam - he can now focus on his core strengths and delegate defence to Peet. I’m wondering what Winder offers?!
The players all seem to be playing with smiles on the face which is down to Adrian Lam surely

You could speculate Cas forced us into a bit of a desperate measure with that. We had been pinned on our line for a few sets and could not get out. A kick on the 4th wouldn't have been a bad tactic to take the play down the pitch but I didn't see that coming. The crowd liked it and had it come off it would have brought the house down.
Even though it didn't, it still relieved the pressure a bit.
We have pace to burn so kicks for the wingers are a good idea every now and again. One of the big criticisms of the Wane era was how predictable we were. That seems to have changed.

I agree, last week against Catalans Zak put up two high kicks which caused mass confusion. The first gave way to French's 2nd Try (let's ignore Sarginson offside BRW) and the second was from a kick off which bounced and went dead with ball back to us.
If we could just put balls into space and make their defenders turn around we would be do much better for it (a good deep kick and chase is worth two tackles IMO).

I'm struggling to see how turning over the ball about 30m from our line is relieving pressure. If they score there then we're only a score ahead and they have the momentum.
I get what you and JohnH are saying about creativity and giving players a bit of scope to try things though, and I was bloody bored under Wane. If it was a deeper kick for French to chase I'd be more understanding, Burgess isn't in the kind of form to be giving him a low percentage play to try IMO. We need to get the ball in French's hands more, in space ideally.

| I think we are all forgetting the influence of Alex Murphy and Graeme West have had on the team that's carried forward to last night...

Something that Blake Green used to do all the time! It’s a perfect play when we are 30/40 from our own line, struggling for yards and the opposition isn’t expecting it.
I can’t believe we don’t do more high kicks out wide to Burgess on the oppositions line either.
