| Quote: jonh "Credit where it is due, after initial promise I have been a big critic of his. Up until this last month or so he just seemed to be going through the motions and not really running his weight or putting himself about.
His form however recently has been outstanding. Really aggressive, taking it to the opposition not sure if he was carrying a knock or if it was a loss of form but he is firing again now.'"
His form has just been typical of a young forward IMO (unless you're Sam Burgess or similar). He's had some good games but consistency was an issue. He looks to be growing now and really gaining confidence and to string together an excellent 6-8 weeks of performances should really see him start to believe in his ability.
The likes of Scott Taylor and Ben Currie (two form forwards in the comp) have both been through similar at the start of their first team careers. Early promise followed by a dip in form to then really find their confidence again.

| Possibly the dip in form was due to being in/out of the team and being moved around positionally a bit. I suspect the improvement is a direct result of being in the team more consistently. Not unusual for younger players especially.
Has been playing well recently and long may it continue.

| Does the signing of FPN mean that Wane now sees Sutton as a back rower rather than a prop?

Maybe in the short term. I can't see him spending more than a few years there though.

| In our first game of the season against you I think he played well ran hard and tackled hard. Then was surprised to see his performances few weeks after against us completely different. He is young and his body is still maturing and he will develop in to a good forward he probably needs to convert some of his weight into muscle tho it looks like he's been on a weight gaining diet but not really done the physical training to match what's going in if that makes sense?
I also think that props especially take a bit longer to grow into their position physically.

| I thought he was outstanding and at 21 years of age, that is an exciting prospect.

| Terrific performance again, thought he was MOM. I hope he continues to develop the ball-playing side to his game, he seemed to think he was Wally Lewis for a 10 minute spell there!

| I am always impressed by the lines that he runs. He made that spectacular break in the Magic Weekend fixture a few years ago when he just hit the hole at the right point. He scored again yesterday against Catalans with hardly a finger being laid on him. That is why I likened him to Ryan Hoffman. He may not be as athletic as Hoffman but Sutton seems to have that positional awareness that cannot be coached. He doesn't have the out and out pace of a wide running second row, but perhaps he does not need it. As for being desperate to pass the ball, did you see the long floated pass yesterday? SOL could not have done better.

Unfortunately I think you're right. I'm sure there were rumours of him going to Australia before he even broke through to the first team. Hopefully he will learn from Burgess mistakes and do his time over here first.
