It's a good business move, I'm sure it can't be good for Whelan financially if lots of our fans decided they wouldn't set foot in a stadium named after him.

| Nice gesture from Whelan, he must know that it won't sit well with Latics fans.

| I think even the Latics fans would acknowledge that Billy B has been probably the greatest player ever to represent either of the clubs. He has also been a fine ambassador for the town in general and is one of the most modest men you could ever meet, a true legend.

With the vast majority I would agree but you know there'll be a small minority who won't see it that way.

| There will be a football named stand too, they are just hyping the rugby one.
I cannot wait for the reaction on here when people find themselves in the 'Roberto Stand', especially if his bias for latics continues and that is the West Stand .
I wonder if, when they change the seats that the ground will match the DW corporate identity and be red, black and white.

Which "Star" are the Latics going to name?
I can see it now "The Tommy Gore Stand"

| He'll name the south stand the Roberto Martinez stand, the west the Jimmy Bullard stand, the East the Paul Jewell stand and then give the away end(the North) to a true great in Bill Boston just to prove a point and show us where we stand in the pecking order!
Suprised he didn't just name a set of bogs after him.

| I think its a nice thing for him to do, but lets be honest if latics had legends of their own, which they don't, they would of been named after those, I feel it's just because they don't have any. I still think its really good though. Which stand do you think it will be? I hope it's the east.

| Quote: Andy Greg "Nice Bit of PR from Mr DW. The bit i did not get was this bit.
Most of the work will take place once Wigan Warriors have played their final match of the rugby season in late July with the first public viewing on August 14
Now i thought we played until mid September in the League i must be wrong unless we are going to the LSV for the last few games
Lazy d journalist. The real reason is that the JJB sponsorship runs until 31st July - thats when it will change. The 14th August he (or she) refers to is our match v Warrington.
