Police budgets have been slashed, Westminster lacks the foresight to make the nuanced reform and change necessary to combat it. Our government believe greater powers to "stop and search" or to "put more police on the streets" will work when the issue stems from crypto-technology that makes it easy to advertise, negotiate and distribute high margin cocaine online. The battle is in the air and not on foot.

The game as a whole needs to decide how it wants to deal with issues like drugs taking. Do we treat performance enhancing drugs as being different to social ones. When I was a young player some of the things done by senior payers under the influence of alcohol would make your hair stand on end but were conveinently ignored by fans and management. I am not in favour of the use of social drugs (other than alcohol but then I am a hypercrit) but I understand that they are very common today. If we genuinely wanted a drugs free sport we could impliment a whole range of processes to find users but we might find that we had few players left. I really think that we want to ask what we want and decide what is to be done before we try to change anything (as I am sure Mrs May will agree with).
