Quote: Jimmy Birts Lives On "No, nothing at all to do with hooliganism! This is about setting up an Ultras scene to promote a bit of colour, passion and noise on the terraces in a similar fashion to Ultras groups on the continent and those which are increasing in popularity over here (e.g. see Aberdeen’s Red Ultras website. Even Accrington Stanley have their Stanley Ultras!)

We'd be looking at the production of new flags and banners, ideally with striking & original designs. Homemade or professionally made flags & banners, it doesn’t matter. The more the better.

If anyone is interested, give me a PM or if anyone has any ideas (including ‘no chance, it’s a non-starter!) put your ideas on here.

I’ve already contacted the club to see if they are interested in having any input although I suspect that something like this would work better away from home for various reasons.

Forza Wigan !!

(Category C and below welcome Like in our PM's, best of luck dude.

It's something I've been trying to champion at Saints for a couple of seasons, but has been falling on deaf ears. But we're making progress with the flags and stuff.

Be good if we could turn the derby into a real hotbed like it used to be, adding colours to it like in Europe.

a fantastic idea- all for it happening, one good thing about going to watch in 2006 was that you where going to get a fantastic atmosphere where ever you sat at the game whereas these days people just cant be bothered- a good atmosphere rubs off on the players, i.e murrayfield this year, hull and bradford in the playoffs. the mustaches took off so why couldnt this

Any one know if the club has any sort of policy of poles inside the ground. I'm talking large flag poles not migrants.

If we're talking bigger than your average "£5 for one, £10 for two" flag/poles bought from a dodgy Cockney at a service station somewhere in the Midlands on the way to Wembley, then I'd imagine it's a no no.

Would be great if the club handed out just simple red and white striped flags. Not the little ones that they give kids at the jubilee but the large ones that they have at footie matches. About 2' x 3'. Of course, if someone in front of me waved it throughout the match, then I'd set fire to it. icon_smile.gif

Or even scarves like Man Utd did last season at the Munich anniversary game, looked amazing on TV.

I don't see why there should be an objection from the club provided the proper permission was gained in advance. I can see people turning up on spec with bloody big sticks getting turned away.

If you consider that Liverpool supporters managed to get this sort of thing into their football ground for donkey's years, I can't see any reasonable objection to them in a Rugby League ground.

No objection at all provided you don't stick it in front of me!

If you do, there's a fair chance it will find it's way up your ar$e!! icon_biggrin.gif

I think Wigan fans are quite vocal away, the main problem is that you're songs have no orginality..all United greatest hits which makes you sound both tedious and cringeworthy.

There are very few original songs at any club, in any sport. They've nearly all been adapted/pinched from somewhere else.

True.

We do have a hidden gem with Mike Hardings 'Wigan Rugby Club' version of 'Uncle Joes Mintballs' that the club could potentially use as the clubs unique anthem ie playing it just after they've come out of the tunnel.

If anybody from the club is reading this, please have a look into it!

I think we just need to be a little more selective in what we adapt or "borrow". Liverpool borrowed "You'll Never Walk Alone" and never gave it back, it's theirs now Carousel may as well never have had it in the first place. I think the "Greatest Club in the World" is a blinder and a fine example of well chosen pilfering, the previous Calderwood effort was not only cringeworthy, it wasn't even accurate.

Having said that, with the exception of "cheat" and "Wemb-er-ley" (learned my lesson with Les Cats) I'll sing owt if it brings the volume up.

Ancient and Loyal upon my chest is a fantastic 'borrowed' effort.

Like 'Greatest club in the world', everybody will hate it, call it and ignore it until they learn it. Once they learn it they all of a sudden love it.
