| tbh i wish it was this clear cut...losing the next two games would be a small sacrifice to get rid of nobby.
IMO i think nobby would have walked if we'd had lost our 4th straight game at london, which in hindsight now i almost wish we had have done as we would be on the way back up now!! If we go on and beat saints by some massive freak of a result, it will only paper over the cracks and we'll just go on with this underacheivement even more indefinately!!
I dont think nobby will get the boot just on the back of these two results, but im almost getting to the stage now where i would be happy for us to lose 5/6/7/8 etc. on the bounce....as many as it takes to get shut as I felt at the time when milward was here!

I can certainly see where your coming from...sadly I think we will just have to put up with it for at least this season...but I hope I'm wrong.

| Ellery for coach ?
He has a proven track record of coaching successfully. A true Wigan legend returning would create a massive buzz around the club and give the squad a lift.

| I've heard some tripe on this board before, and again it repeats itself.
Edwards was a great player for Wigan, but is completely untested in RL coaching.
Hanley.........well imo not a great RL coach.
Get real imo.

| I have read lot of threads regarding Brian Noble's position at the club, and in truth the results do speak for themselves as they are not good enough!
However every time we have a bad run, sacking the coach always seems to be the thing most supporters ask for,
Usually Wigan sack a coach, bring someone else in, who then has a great run of form, however suddenly the wheels start to come off again and we are back to square one!
Maybes the problem isnt the coach, maybe it is the players?
My opinion is that unless Daniel Anderson suddenly quits his new job in Australia, then their isn't really anyone else out there that could do better in my opinion.
Shaun Edwards: untested as a coach at Super league level
Ellery Hanley: I have alot of time for him however look at his results with his past clubs? he won the super league with Saint's but i don't think he could do any better with Wigan.

| Quote: JTB "Me neither. It strikes me that the chairman does a lot of things on the cheap and persisting with an lame duck coach rather than have to pay off his contract is exactly his style.'"
thats the worrying bit.
he knows theres no relegation so its not panic stations with him, but i think he'll notice when the gates start to go down, and they will imo.
when we nearly went down (thank you ian) it united the fans and the crowds went higher the worse we played (explain that one budding psychologists) .
this time round we are near the bottom, playing garbage rugby, and theres an apathy about where we finish as theres no motivation among fans to help keep us up, cos we cant go down.
it makes one wonder what kind of deal IL struck to buy the club. Its only guesswork without seeing the contract, but my guess is that he got it cheap and in return signed some clause that effectively let D *spit* W do what he liked regarding the stadium arrangements.
IL is still trying to do things on the chaep, and IMO instead of castigating noble (although i think he'll be out the door when his contract runs out) we should be castigating the board...ie IL.
you get a lot of what we are going through in football, but do they ALWAYS howl for the coaches head? no, not always. I have heard quite a lot of anti board protests on occasion when the fans want to back the manager.
newcastle for example.
thoughts??

| from the outside looking in, i'd have to say your chairman is at fault, he clearly is a fan, but a businessman first and wont spend any money. If your coach is not up to the job, sack him and get a superstar coach, but he wont pay for that. If its the players, sack them and get in better ones, but he wont pay for that.

Been there, done that!
And the person who did it was criticised and Virtually hounded out of the club (sp) by a lot of the fans for doing so!
PS
How do we get rid of Bailey/Fielden/Coley etc when they are mid contract???
I am sure as Saints fan you would love us to enter another mid season period of chop/change because even though your next sanctimonious(sp) Quote will be how you would love to see Wigan "Giving us a game!" the truth is You don't, and I don't blame you, but please don't come on here thinking you know more than us just because your teams better than ours!
YOU DON'T! YOU JUST THINK YOU DO!

| So come on then!!!!!
Did we not try changing players willy nilly & try to buy success a few years ago???? Where did that end up????
Didn't your fans and the rest of RL fans that we were wrong to do it and didn't give players enough time, now you want us to Sack them after 8 games!
Didn't we end up falling foul of the SC for doing so repeatedly (Although not as many as some clubs!) but you want us to go down this path again!
Which players should IL "Sack" and for what reason???? I'm sure you would love us to get dragged into some court case for that one wouldn't you!
Which players should he bring in that would want to come to Wigan off the back of Wigan treating the previous players like dirt! I'm sure there would be loads Queuing up!
Which Superstar Coach would come to Wigan after the way the previous dozen have been treated??? What if they don't want to come???
Come on, you have all the answers!
Tell me "HOW" the chairman is af fault! I've had enough arguments with the bloke face to face to prove I don't agree with everything he does but tell me what "Monstrous Mistakes" has he made???" and what would you have done differently bearing in mind Hindsight and the Fact that you don't have 10 million quid to pump into the club so its irrelevant anyway!
More importanly, tell me which part of you original post made any Valid and/or constructive points?

IL is one stingy b@stard
I think Noble deserves some 'castigating' but I won't go into that
Maybe once IL realises that youth is better than average aussies (i hope for his sake that penny has dropped by now) thenhe should focus on bringing fewer aussies in but the ones we do bring in are top quality and guarenteed to improve thew squad
Until we recruit correctly(amongst other things) we have no chance of success

| The problem isn't just the coach (solid but no superstar IMO) or the players (mainly mediocre, but so, unfortunately, are the vast bulk of players in the Sooper Dooper League these days).
The issues for me stem from a general malaise at the club (which has now infected the supporters - see the "Lethargy" thread).
Standards have dropped across the board. In all areas, whether its fitness, conditioning, match preparation (do we practice any set plays?), mental approach, tactics, coaching, scouting, team selection, leadership, commitment on the field etc etc Wigan simply aren't achieving (or even aspiring to) the highest standards.
What really made Wigan no.1 in the glory era wasn't the signing of all the best players in RL on megabucks, as some muppets would have you believe.
What really made Wigan great was the system. A Wigan system that took lesser lights like Neil Cowie from Rochdale and turned them into class players. When that system got hold of a legend like Gene Miles, considered in Oz to be a spent force, it revitalised him and got him to the point where he forged with Offiah the greatest centre-wing combination that modern RL has ever seen.
Likewise with Tuigamala, who arrived with a massive reputation in RU but despite his star status was made to remodel his bloated physique and became a superb athlete and one of the most physically powerful runners the game has ever seen.
That system was based on a pursuit of excellence, a refusal to accept second best. The vision for that came from ML, who set out to build the greatest side in the world, always talked in those terms and made that dream a reality. He brought in and encouraged the development of players who were utterly uncompromising in their own standards and what they expected of team mates, men like Edwards, Hanley, Bell and in later years Robinson and Farrell. The backroom set up was deliberately modelled on the best Australian and other world leading sports training and treatment ideas. The whole club was geared up to be the best.
What we really need is for IL to set the tone. He needs to start talking in terms of Wigan regaining its position as the greatest RL side and getting people into the club who share that vision and will work to make it happen.
We have unrivalled player resources in the local area, the most famous name in RL to attract star players and great facilities.
If he does not show the ambition needed and set the most demanding of standards and ensure they are met in all areas then we can forget ever closing the gap on Stains and Leeds, let alone regaining our position as the top side.
The fact that Stains and Leeds and SL as a whole have gone backwards in terms of quality in recent years makes Wigan's failure all the more shameful.
