Careful with your language. Wigan did not "cheat". We exploited the rules to the full. Isn't that what everyone does (and should) do in professional sport?

No different to taking the full allotted time to make a conversion, or stealing an extra yard if you can get away with it.

I will give you the facts.

Wigan deferred the wages of several players e.g. Harrison Hansen so they didn't exceed the cap when signing other players.

There was at the time nothing in the rules to specifically prevent this. In Australia in the NRL it was pretty routine and this was the basis of Wigan's argument when challenged.

Castleford led the charge of indignation against this approach and indignation was all they had because Wigan were not actually breaking the cap or any rules since there weren't any to preclude deferring wages.

The RFL then used the "spirit of the cap" rule to deem Wigan had broken the rules.

Wigan were deducted points but avoided relegation. Maurice Lindsay was going to take the RFL to court over this but said given any case would only occur after the seasons end there was no point pursuing it.

I always felt it was a pity he didn't because I reckon he'd have won, the rules would have been clarified and the stupid catch all of "spirit of the cap" would have to have been removed from the rule book.

What makes me laugh is when I pointed out that one of the times that Saints got done was due to payment made to international players, I was told to shut up and we cheated and our achievements in those years were null and void, despite the fact that why we did didn't affect our success that year. That was when Superleague went to a level salary cap i.e All clubs could spend up to the Max cap limit.

Saints cheated the cap a year in which they won the GF. Therefore that should have been removed like they would have done if it was Wigan, and Saints Championship count should be reduced to 11.

Wigan did NOT break the rules. There was NO rule preventing Wigan from doing what they did.

Frankly you should be thanking Wigan for taking the points deduction and not going to court because if they did they would have won the case and further undermined the RFL.

If Wigan had done nothing wrong, they wouldn't have been punished.

If Wigan genuinely believed they were innocent, they would have challenged the punishment.

I am not a troll. You can't ban someone for simply disagreeing with people. I am an opinionated person but I simply speak my mind and say what I believe. Apart from the odd blip I don't resort to personal insults either, unlike the barrage of abuse I regularly receive on here. If they banned me they'd have to ban a lot more besides.
