And there are a small number of clubs who get away with it on a regular basis.
It 'has' to be being coached!

| It was a forward pass but not by much and certainly nothing like some are making out. There were more obvious forward passes in the game that went un-noticed

| Okay, time to throw the cat amongst the pigeons.
I always tune in the scanner and listen to the referee. When SKY are broadcasting the game, the referee, both touch judges and video ref are all on an open mike type intercom.
1) when the pass went accross for the wire try, the linesman did shout ' forward, forward, forward' it was Mr Ganson who chose to ignore it and give the try. ( smells of an agenda to me )
2) I have lost count just how many of the RFL's 'rules' are broken on a weekly basis. The video ref, should only speak when questioned by the ref, and yet chimes in on a regular basis, particularly during a stop in play after an incident. Just watch the replay of when Luaki got cleaned out and the ref was so called speaking to his touch judge. Unless it was telepathy they were saying f***all, as they were both listening to the video ref ( I know, because i was too ! ). The referee then often says something like, 'so it was contact with the head then' and the linesman answers as if it was he who had made the observation. Just watch them and you will see it so very often. I won't go into the many comments about evening up penalty counts etc.
The point is, no matter whether you could ask the video ref about forward passes or not, if the Ref. / RFL/ cummings or whoever else can issue some pressure, wants a certain result, they can easily affect the outcome of any game by simply not asking the video ref ( like Thaler ) or asking the video ref to find a reason not to give it.
Add to this, a ref can structure the result of a game, not by giving penalties when they are not warrantied, ( as they can be proved to be wrong ), but by not giving penalties when they should be, holding down, high tackles, forward pass, offsides, etc etc etc. This is not just Wigan games I am referring to, many times watching many different teams one can see within minutes who is going to win just because of what the ref lets one side get away with whilst penalising the other.
I have come away from games wondering why I am putting my money into such a crooked sport, one day I hope to get an answer.

On certain things he can't which is why the Widnes conversion v Saints wasn't given and why Cas were awarded a scrum at The Jungle last year when the ball clearly went out on thefull.

10172_1376829585.jpg Dan Sarginson: "This is a fantastic opportunity for me to join the biggest name in the competition" 18/10/2013
Tony Clubb: "This is a new exciting chapter of my life signing for Wigan and I couldn't be happier" 18/10/2013
Romain Navarrete: “I’m very happy to have signed for Wigan Warriors. As soon I knew that Wigan were interested, they were the only team that I wanted to sign for. To me, Wigan is the biggest Club in Rugby League and it will be an honour to pull on the famous Cherry-and-White jersey next year. I look forward to working with Shaun Wane and the players at Wigan.”:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10172.jpg |

| So the answer is to change the wording of the rule:
The ball, when passed, must go backwards in relation to the ground, and any forward motion from momentum should be considered as an illegal pass. The ball must land/be caught/kicked in a position closer to the passer's goal line, than from the position at which the ball left the hands.

Well done for killing the game. That's the worst idea ever, end of. BTW the pass wasn't forward.

I think you're joking but just in case...
Try running at full pelt and throwing a ball backwards "in relation to the ground," think you'll then see why this is a very silly idea. We'd have to have netball-style passing where you have to plant your feet!

Absolutely - The RFL/Cummings wanted Wigan to lose that game. Obviously.
Another one for the loony bin here.

There'd be some impressive face plant incidents with players trying to immediately stop from running at full pelt

And rightly so. If one was to not score a try forward, then it would be a backwards try, or as it is otherwise known [i'ball grounded in the in goal area resulting in an extra set of six which eventually results in you losing the game.'[/i
I'd stick with the forward try thingy, but perhaps that's just me.

| Quote: Thelonius "I'm Sorry, but as has been explained pretty clearly earlier in this thread, this has nothing to do with whether or not a pass is forward.
Imagine Usain Bolt was a rugby player and when running flat out covers 10m every second. On the 20m line he passes the ball to Yohan Blake inside him and the ball travels backwards at 1m per second compared to Bolt (a perfectly legitimate pass). The ball is still travelling forwards over the ground at 9m per second, so if the ball is in the air for half a second before Blake catches it, he will receive the ball 4.5m in front of where Bolt passed the ball.'"
That’s a Gold medal answer, but wouldn’t they break the salary cap? (I can't check your maths though, the baby pulled all the beads off mi abacus)

Strange you’ve never heard of him! WOLFgang Amadeus (Mozzer) Mozart, he plays prop for Salzburg Storm. He’s built like a brick Steinway, and plays a major key role in all their games. It has been said that Wigan have been making overtures for him!
