Looking forward to this. Having only been following Wigan away since '99 this is one of the few grounds I've not been to.

Still one of my favourite Challenge Cup memories as a kid, was watching Fev beat Hull in the 1983 final against all odds (on a par with Sheffield beating us in 9icon_cool.gif. Remember watching on telly and hoping one day that Wigan would get there, only had to wait 12 months.

I'm chuffed to bits with this draw, never thought I'd see the day when the mighty Wigan graced Post Office Road again.

Should be an easy win for you, but then again........

Already started the needle with my old man, who's a Pie at heart, although he's been a Flat Capper since moving over to the posh side of the pennines in 1967

Quote: MattyB "Does the train go past the ground still? Assuming not as IIRC it was a coal freight train that slumbered past every so often. I remember a game back in the early eighties and Wigan had a scrum feed, past the ball out and one of our players (think it was Wendy Whitfield) was day-dreaming watching the train go past. The whole section of the Wigan crowd shouted at him to catch the ball, think he dropped it or it went in touch.
Dont jest, train spotters take things rather serious you know.

Homer thats a grand old Yorkshire name if I ever heard one.
As for (fert) the posh side of the penines there is one thing that allways sticks in my mind every time I return from Yorkshire in the late afternoon .
That is when I reach the crest of the hill at Saddleworth on the M62 and look down on Lancashire and all I can see is the Lancashire pain bathed in evening sunshine.
But when I look into the rear view mirror all I can see is the approaching darkness.
Really though I am chuffed to be playing a team who in the 50s and 60s ( and even later)
caused fear in opponents who had to go there. Good luck.

Yep the trains still go past the ground - freight, local passenger service trains, even intercity style ones rumble past on a frequent basis (bar sunday when there is no local passenger service)

Looking forward to this one it will be nice to see players like Tomkins, Charnley and Richards attempting to ply their trade on our ground hopefully

Whichever day the game is played im hopeful of a big away following, you always seem to travel well so the old place will be rocking again

Being at home we should have no fear especially after beating cas but you are an entirely different kettle of fish, if we get a couple of tries and give an overall good account of ourselves i will be happy

Someone mentioned about last orders - dont know what will happen with that i suspect it might be an all fev pub again with people on the door, the owners hates it when theres more than 20 people in anyway let alone supporters intermingled!

Hope the first timers enjoy their visit and returning supporters enjoy their return, hope we put on a good show for you - from corporate to the terraces

Its good to read so many positive and encouraging posts about Fev. You will all be made most welcome and hopefully it will be a sell out and another good spectacle for rugby league. For those who have never been, expect a passionate atmosphere to reverberate around the ground, its quite an experience!

As for drums and flags, bring them all and sing up loud cos we certainly will.

Looking forward to seeing Wigan on the slight gradient again, still remember one of the last games we played against you, the game when we beat you. Never expected that on that day and not expecting to win again but............. we can live in hope I suppose!!!

Happy with this, wanted Leigh away but they'll do for the QF's icon_wink.gif

Can't wait, tickets will go fast for this, anyone got an idea of what our allocation might be? And when they will go on sale?

If the ground holds 6500 ish and they got just over 4k on in a local derby on Saturday against Cas i'd be suprised if we got less then 2000. That should be enough to satisfy the demand of fans wanting to go.

Quote: rochdale warrior "Think it is safe to say we will come in big numbers, another ticket scramble, seems a long time since I went to POR, do you lot like drums and flags Unlike most Championship grounds, drums and flags are more than welcome down at the Big Fellas Stadium, after all the idea is to enjoy the game and build the atmosphere.
It won't be a sell out but tickets might be sold beforehand to ease congestion at the turnstiles but no doubt the clubs will be in discussion to sort out the arrangements. As for allocation, we'd rather sell them to you lot and have a full ground than have empty spaces on the terracing and stands.Against Cas it was still pay on the gate as well so I have no doubt that anyone who wants to come will get in

Good to read plenty of positive comments, this is the way it should be.
Exciting times at POR & its great to have a world class team coming down here.
Should be a cracking old fashioned "David & Goliath" game.
I'll not wish you luck...!! But hope you all have a cracking day & hope we get an easier team in the next round...!!

Got a feeling I'll end up missing this due to work. Surely the BBC aren't stupid enough to pass this game up.
