Surely Tommy's alone would be attractive enough! Fair enough Lenegan said it was a bumper contract when he took over the club, (and subsequently made noises like it was getting reduced a bit) but he was still a Kiwi international when he signed his last renewal.

Chris Ashton said he fancied another go at league to see that he 'still had it' which I didn't quite understand as that would mean he had something about him in the first place!
We could sign him on a 3 month deal but we'd need to write a clause in that if Richard Moore is selected for the game against Leeds at Headingley Ashton is allowed to be a water carrier for the day.
He'd be lucky to get that position nowadays.

| As I've said on the signings thread, Roberts leaving frees up quota space and salary cap We also have the transfer fee from Joel Tomkins so should a player become available we are in a very strong position to make a move.

Will a chunk of the cap be taken up by giving Lockers and Micky M their deserved improved contracts? I am hoping for a proven world class replacement for Tommy though preferably some one who can make of an impact than Lance Hohaia.

I think I'd be all-round wary of Chris Ashton these days.
Whether he'd be able to play league now is open to question, but his attitude doesn't seem to have improved much.
No sooner had he arrived at Sarries than he appeared to be talking about returning to League.
I can imagine that as soon as he re-signed with Wigan, he'd then be talking to someone like Bath.
Comes over as totally unreliable.

Am I right in thinking Lockers wage doesn't count on the salary cap? 50% for 10yrs and 50% for long-serving homegrown player or something like that.

Quote: "AMOS Roberts has played his last game for Wigan.
The Australian utility back last night announced his retirement from rugby league after failing to fully recover from a knee injury.
“On behalf of myself and my family, a big thanks to all the fans and staff,” he said on his Twitter account. “Much love and respect, we’ve enjoyed our time here.”
Ex-Sydney Roosters ace Roberts, whose four-year deal was to expire later this season, was in scorching form in early 2010 but suffered a knee injury on Easter Monday.
And though he has undergone several operations to try and revive his career, he has decided to call it quits and head home to Australia. '"

He's the definition of a career man, he seems to have very little loyalty to teams and who he plays with, every thing he does is to improve his own profile. We have better skilled and more passionate players filling his positions in Charnley, Richards and Sam.

their one and the same thing. and its 50% upto a maximum of 50k. so if o'loughlin is on 80 k then 40k doesnt count on cap. If hes on 130k then 50k wouldnt count on cap. And its one 50k allowance for the entire team so if you have other players that qualifiy the 50k allowance is shared between them as far as salary cap is concerned.

Its not 50% but £50k for each of the 10yr service and for being a homegrown player. The allowances can only be applied once across the whole squad. If O'Loughlin was the only player to qualify for both then his salary could be discounted by £100k for salary cap calculation purposes.
