What happens if Wigan Athletic get into financial difficulties, say following relegation? They may sell the stadium to a developer. A developer who may see the whole site as prime for housing or commercial development.

There are lots of ifs buts and maybe's around this whole affair, and Wigan fans should be deeply concerned.

Orrell is probably worth more than the JJB in terms of land values as well. Which is the only thing sporting clubs can really get from their assets if they have to trade them in.

The JJB/DW was never our spiritual home anyway so it doesn't matter to me who owns it. If the club had a nomadic existence and played games at various localities I'd still love it with a passion. It's the concept of Wigan Rugby League Football Club that I love. It's very name, not the present incumbents of the jersey or the souless stadium we play out of.
