| Quote MattyB="MattyB"Gaz Hock should be sacked with immediate effect once results are in.

I agree. Whilst this news is a massive blow, I'm trying to see if any positives can come from it and I've a feeling that it may signal the beginning of the end of the appaling culture and attitude at Wigan that has seen numerous coaches come & go as they fail to motivate the set of lacklustre fecks.
Hock is what can be considered a senior pro at Wigan. A 'star' of the team. If this is how senior stars behave, what hope is there for instilling a positive culture at the club. Like Rads put it recently, junior members used to come into the team in awe of the senior pros. Shithouse attitude at the top = house attitude at the bottom. Shithouse attitude full stop. This gives the club a bomb proof excuse to crack down hard, stop the rot and weed out the lame dicks who can only be bothered to turn up one week in five.

| Quote cadoo="cadoo"I know. I don't see why players do it. I just can't see the logic with such short careers and usually they don't get a life changing amount after it.'"
It's sad isn't it.
I said on facebook to a mate before i could accept a player getting off his head on ale every night or gambling his money away because that probably won't cost them their careers(even though they'd still be daft to do it) but i can't accept them taking drugs when they know a ban awaits them!
Why would you risk such a fantastic career when it's ultimatly a short one.

| cant believe the consenus on here for keeping Chock on!! the 'hes made a mistake comment', and 'he'll only go to a rival in 2 yrs why punish us'
Allow hock to come back and what message do you send out to the rest.....?! 'Yeah do drugs, theres only a small chance of getting caught and if you do you'll only be out for 2 years and we'll take you back on?'
The only way the punishment ever bites is that players like hock never play for this great club again! The message that needs to be sent is 'Yes hock may play for a lesser club in 2 years (which as a side point is ludicrous IMO...it should be a lifetime ban)....he might make a comeback with warrington, wakefield, huddersfield, castleford etc. but he will NEVER play for his home town club, the biggest name in RL AGAIN. You can only make the punishment count if hock never wears the cherry and white again!! Maybe then, if he can grow a brain cell, he might just look back in 20 years time and think 'What an idiot i really was'.
Only then will the rest of the team and other players in RL think about taking drugs!

I agree its not 80% in my experience, but its a damn sight more than most think! At the end of the day, he has made a big mistake, as lets face
it, he isnt going to get as well paid a job doing anything else, and im assuming he has a mortgauge that will require paying.
However its not like he has killed someone, are there 30 plus pages on Greg Bird? No!
However i read this news today, with a groing sence of apathy about what was once my great club.
A good majority of people on these boards, know that this has been going on for some years now, not just this player, but others have been talked about, and the club has just turned a blind eye to this! Im sure they will come out with the usuall about not conding this and so on, but if people who arnt invloved with the club see this, how can people involved not see it!
Very sad day for Wigan, as once again the club is dragged down by stupidity!
Last point, if he failed a test on friday night, and coke stays in your system for upto 75 hours, that means a tuesday/wednesday night session has got him into trouble.
That is pathetic to be honnest. I can understand (not condone) it on a friday/saturday night! But a tuesday night in wigan! Its hardly New York round here!

| Quote ABP'="ABP'"Personally, I can't see Gareth Hock returning to top flight Rugby League again. I don't think he's got the correct mentality, attitude or those around him to help do it.
I can just see him getting banned for two years, getting a labouring job and playing for an NL2 club after the ban for extra income.'"
I'd have to agree with this. I can't help but think that he'll self destruct ala Mike Tyson.

The fact that he may go to a rival club doesn't concern me in the slightest but i think there has to be some sort of chance for the lad but only on the grounds that he totally changes his life.
If he isn't willing to be watched like a hawk when his times up and to any other rules Wigan make for him then his time should be up without question.
He should be grovelling to Wigan after this.

Testing positive, doubt it, but unsure

No.
Possession is as we all know illegal, but the consumption of a drug (cocaine or not) isn't. Hence why if you watch these police shows and they are dealing with people who have taken drugs they are rarely arrested - and if they are 9/10 its under the public order act.

Therefore, is there anything preventing Hock going to the NRL ?

Can't be proved though can it?
Ie. he could of had some cocaine that was someone else's.
To be charged with possession one would actually have to be caught in possession.

Hardly places containing a genuine sample of the rest of the population though.......unless your looking for a sample of chavs!! It doesnt surprise me that coke levels in those areas are so high........yet 80% is a gross exageration and is laughable
