Quote: MidlandsWarrior2 "Thats the feed to the uk from nz i dont think its your pc

The game is a good workout to get rid of the long flights effects

The two referees is different and there have been a few penalties ont he last tackle at what i would say were normal play of the balls'"

MW, It was probably the stream whatever that is ( I am a bit slow with those sort of things) but when I restarted my PC and logged in again the second half was OK.

The outstanding player on the field tonight was Sam Powell, he had a blinder. Burgess took his try's well but the big moment of the second half was Manfredi taking a kick through in his own 5yd area then brushing a couple of attempted tackles off then going 90 yards to touch down.
Taylor was easily the pick of the forwards, he was making yards every drive in with one special one when he was dumped very heavily on the back of his neck(was deemed to be a spear tackle) with his head slamming into the ground. The next drive he took up he scattered them, Bateman also seemed very sharp when he was on the field.

Quote: The Yellow Giraffe "More dangerous with Hampshire at FB than Bowen, like I said after the friendly v Saints.'"

Bowen has been at one club for all his career. He's probably played the same attacking structures since Thurston broke into the first team. It's going to take time to get those instincts out of his head. Old dog, new tricks etc... He's class and I think it will start to show. I think the intention this year is for them to share that role anyway. Hampshire needs game time and Bowen needs rests. Tierney will probably get a few games too.

Just logged on to get an update on the game (had to go in work early).
Great result - didn't expect that!!

I'm hoping the full match will be available to watch on Wigan TV later tonight?

Powell has definitely consolidated the bench utility role for the WCC, unless SW decides to go with 4 forwards. Hampshire should be causing Wane a massive selection dilemma but I don't think there's any chance Bowen would be dropped for this next game.

Not sure if Thornley picked up a knock on Friday but I think only him, Lockers and Green didn't feature, so looking like the backline will be Charnley/Goulding/Sarginson/Burgess against the Roosters. Neither did much but it will have done McIlorum and Charnley a lot of good to get 40 minutes game time after not featuring much in pre-season.

I'm still not convinced by Tony Clubb, he seems to be carrying too much weight and isn't quick or mobile enough to defend out wide in the SR. I thought Bateman was excellent, though he played the last 15 minutes or so in the centres.

Yes, spoke too soon! (my connection was iffy too, doesn't help that my internet has gone to sh#t on top of the poor NZ link anyway).

Is that 11 tries in 4 for Budgie now?

edit: Looking through the 27 man squad that travelled, Jordan James was the other one who didn't feature

[b:2q2mjndn]"What was it like out there Sam?"[/b:2q2mjndn] "F*cking hard mate" Queensland great Sam Backo live on telly to nine's Tim Sheridan after being named man of the match in a state of origin game in 1988.:

Sensational 2nd half from our youngsters Sam Powell was the star of the show and it was fantastic to see creativity throughout the team. I don't think ive seen Wigan play free flowing rugby like that for a while i hope this continues against the roosters as it will give us a great chance in attack against a huge defence. I don't think anybody had a bad game in that second half and i must agree with some comments before that Waney has got selection headaches now. There where some great individual performances Hampshire, Bateman, Burke, Powell all stood out for me and I must give a mention to Anthony Gelling I thought he really stepped up the attack when he came on with some powerful runs at centre. Im also in agreement with tony clubb it's far to early to be assessing him as a player after only 4 game sin a Wigan shirt but i think he needs to work on a few things to be included in the wcc, he started at loose and didn't really have an impact but once Burke came on at loose it was a game changer, 100% completion rate in the second half for Wigan after at least 30 minutes to New Zealands 20% that's got to please Waney.
All in all i think New Zealand where humbled today by a bunch of keen youngsters who have sent Waney heading off to the nearest paracetamol shop. a014.gif eusa_clap.gif a014.gif

Great looking result, congrats and good to hear the British youngsters put on a show second half.

What was the NZW team that started the game and how did they line up for that second half?

The commentary team said the majority of the NZW backs were youngsters with a few of the forwards as well, due to the Aukland 9s this weekend. It was a strange 1st half for the first 15 mins it seemed that Wigan would blow them away because as well as going 12 up in quick sticks they missed a couple of easy chances to score more.
Then Wigan just seemed to go to sleep, missing tackles and giving to many penalties away which allowed NZW to dominate the last 20 min of the half.
One thing Wigan will have to watch in Sydney is the man diving at the legs when a player seems to be held, they were penalised in the second half for it. It is such a grey area and so open to different interpretation that I cringe when I see it happen.
The second half though Wigan and especially the backs just dominated the match.

They played reserve backs (and Townsend who was woeful in defence) throughout, a few first team forwards got decent minutes (Matulino, Rapira and some time for Mateo etc). The second half was essentially reserves vs reserves.
