| Quote: Grimmy "So I got my wish, we have Huddersfield in the semis and Leeds play Saints. How do people feel about it now it's done? I'm not saying it's a given but I feel a lot more comfortable fight now than I would if we were at home to Saints next week.
Huddersfield are a good team but we beat them in both games this year and they tend to underperform in the play offs, whereas Saints have tons of experience of making the grand final even if they tend to bottle it on the big stage (bar last year's narrow default success obviously) '"
Getting next weeks game at the DW was the main objective, but the overriding feeling this morning is disappointment. The LLS would have given us a home derby game and guaranteed our involvement in next year's WCS. Regardless of Hudds previous playoff performances they're the form team of the Super 8s and have a very good record at the DW. Getting hudds at home isn't worth losing the LLS IMO.
I'm glad we did our bit and won our game, it just makes last weeks result a bit more difficult to swallow (plus the umpteen shoddy away performances during 2015)

| Re the WCC, with Leeds winning the Cup and the LLS, getting to the GF guarantees involvement, doesn't it?
If Leeds win all three, the beaten Finalist will be the second team; who will be the third? HKR?

I don't think they're picking the cup runners up.
Think it just works its way down the league table. So if it's a Leeds/Wigan final then Hudds as the 3rd place should get it. Basically I think Saints need to get to Old Trafford otherwise it's the current top 3. Only way Wigan would miss out is if it was a Hudds vs Saints GF (with Leeds obviously guaranteed already to being involved)

Well, that would be a turn-up!
I suspect you're right that the third team would be the Giants in the scenario I mentioned, and that would certainly the fairest and most logical thing, but I don't know for certain.

| Leeds plus the GF winners/runners up (if Leeds win GF) are guaranteed. The third WCC spot is at the RFLs discretion.

| Yeah but they want people to actually watch the WCC.
Though I'm not sure being 3rd after 30 rounds is any more of an achievement to being 2nd after 23.

Spot on!
The WCC was a success last year and we need to build on that.
Imagine if you'd have swapped Wigan for Cas or Hudds. Would, what was essentially a friendly game, drawn the same level of publicity or a 25k strong crowd?
What's fair or right shouldn't come into it. We need our big name sides playing their big name teams. Brisbane proved this by being a massive draw but only finished 8th in 2014.

| Didn't Hudds opt out last year because they didn't want to pay for it? I can see that happening again unless Hudds are obliged to play as champions.

| I don't get it with Huddersfield. It's a great ground with good facilities, practically on site parking. Easy enough to get away from. A good team for a few years now. The coach is a good bloke, not given to talking rubbish. The chairman has made it his life's work.
And yet the people of Huddersfield don't support their team. And as far as I'm aware they have really tried to market it. Some of the season ticket deals were amazing a few years back.
If Wigan don't win it I really hope the Giants do. And it would be great to see them play the Aussies in front of a full house. Sadly I don't think that's likely. Although there was a full house for the England v Ireland World Cup game so you never know.

They did, though it's debatable that they should have to pay. I don't imagine the Aus teams are forking out for the pleasure, why should ours?

We really at the opposite ends of the spectrum on stuff.
Hudds for me are the epitome of everything wrong with modern day RL. What's thier youth set up like? How do they want to grow the game? How many fans do they bring to away games and how do they as a club contribute to the overall health of the game?
Wigan, Leeds & Saints produce youngsters every year that eventually filter into every layer of the game. They take rafts of fans home and away which in turn support all the club's in the league with gate receipts. They invest in new areas outside of the heartlands etc. What do they get in return, as to me it all looks one way? Heck it's taken how many years to get a marquee rule passed, which imo wasn't asking much.

Yes we do differ. I'm not going to bore you with my thoughts as you know them already other than making the obvious point that the game needs different clubs competing to keep up interest. As it is I'd imagine people are getting pretty bored with Wigan, Leeds and Saints winning everything.

Didn't it pretty much come down to the English clubs having to stump up the guaranteed cash before the Aussie teams would turn up?
