| New contract announcements for Lockers, Finch & McIllorum are hopefully not to far away.
Losing Finch would be devestating.

Better league, warmer country, nice beaches, barbecued fish, home? I'd guess that this is the real situation despite what gets said in the media- if an NRL club comes in and offers him decent money and contract length he'll be off like a shot. If not, he'll be staying.

I know you read these boards, will you please do everything in your power to re-sign Brett Finch. He has publicly stated he would love to stay with Wigan over the next few years, the guy is an absolute class act and integral to what we want to achieve. With Thomas Leuluai already leaving at the end of the season, we simply cannot afford to replace both halfbacks, we need continuity.
Thank you.
Scott Dureau as replacement for Tommy would be nice as well.

Are you seriously trying to suggest that Wigan isnt more appealing than that?

| The best compliment I can pay him is that I hope he buggers off home (bar moving to Saints).
Finch is a better player than Barrett for sure. Maybe not as skilful but there aren't many who can organise and lead like he can. I know who I'd rather have.

| Following the Wakefield game IL came into the SS Bar and amongst other things said that negotiations were to start that week with Brett Finch.
I honestly believed then it had been agreed verbally between them that he would stay, with the contract details to be discussed.
I could not see for a moment IL saying anything like that publicly if there was the slightest posibility he would not re-sign.
Surely it's just a matter of how long. Two plus one, one plus one? Who knows, that's what they'll be discussing I reckon.

| Quote: TrentBarrett "It's to Finch and Hoffmans credit they managed to play so well last season considering most imports put in extremely average performances in their first year compared to what they have shown in the nrl. '"
Well your namesake didn't. Barrett had a calf injury when he arrived but after a month or so when that cleared up he hit top form and maintained it for the rest of the two years he was here. Finch and Hoffman also hot the ground running. This is what class players do.
I reckon that in general if you looked into it the NRL players who take a season to get going are the ones who aren't that good. There will be the odd exception such as Richards who was played out of position but I reckon 9 times out of 10 any player of the standard of a Barrett or Finch will be up to speed virtually from the off.
Quote: TrentBarrett "Finch has stepped up his game again for 2012 and if where to win any trophies it's because this guy will be at the heart of every play.'"
He is a great player and easily worth a couple of more seasons.

Barrett went from being great in the first year to fairly average (by his standards) in the second. Complete reverse of the usual trend.

Two completely different teams and coaching styles, though. I'd love to have seen what Barrett (2007 vintage) could have done playing in the current system with the current squad.

27588.gif "Games as big as a grand finals define individuals and clubs. Remember we are only renting these shirts, I had my time in Pat Richards shirt. Ellery and Faz had there time in Sean's, Hampo and Radders in Sam's. You have to make a mark in these shirts that's still there the day you hand it over to someone else. So be aware for 80 minutes you are not only playing but also writing history and creating a legacy. How many people get to actually write history, not many. A big stage demands big players, be inspired. You play for Wigan, now go do it. Good luck." - Martin Offiah, 2010.:27588.gif |

| I'd give Finch a one year deal with the option to extend if he plays x amount of games or at maximum a 2 year deal. We shouldn't be handing out a 3 year deal to anyone other than homegrown first teamers ages under 30 or young lads.

Disagree
we should only be handing out 3 year deals to top class players who are capable of performing at a high level for the duration of the contract.
Your policy would only stifle the squad.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know
