Some Salford fan said to me and I quote "You are by far and away the most Handsome & Knowledgeable Rugby League Fan in England!"
I thanked him and went on my Merry way!
RIVERCAVE DWELLER OF THE YEAR 2015!
"The club used you last night and didn't tell the truth."

Quote: Jimmy Birts Lives On "Good venue for the meeting and a decent spread put on by the landlady (who is a Saints fan! In the heart of Wigan Rugby mad Swinley, I know).
About 15 turned up including a few new faces which was good to see.
Decision made to put what money we have at the moment (£120) towards the Formby Flag. That flag costs £160 so we’ve still a bit to raise.
Phase 1 practically complete now as the gantry will be full when those flags on order or about to be ordered arrive.
Heated discussion about Phase 2 and what that should involve. A difference of opinion between going over to the North Stand, trying to turn the South into something resembling the Kop on a big European night i.e. large flags on poles within the stand and a combination of the two.
We agreed to get some quotes for the Kop style flags before making a final decision. We will also need to consult the club about this and for those worried about it obstructing their view, the idea is to use them at times like when the team takes to the pitch and at the end of a game, not during the game. The club want to contribute towards a flag so maybe let them do one over the North Stand. ‘This is Wigan – Forever In Our Shadow’ is my favourite design for that one!
We then talked about trying other ideas besides the flags such as bar scarves. 4000 bar scarves given away at the turnstiles at the Saints game for example. Maybe the club can get their hand in their pocket for this. I think Jukes agreed to contact them about this?'"
Pretty much sums it up! Thanks for taking the Minutes
A.P 1 = Jukesays to set up meeting with club.
Update = Arranged meeting with Media & Marketting manager Simon Collinson for 11.am next Friday 23rd April.
Briefly spoke to Simon Yesterday and metioned most of the points alluded to above.
Club seem very keen on most ideas and even Parsifal's idea regarding adorning inside walls of South/East Stands with Flags, Club would have to think of ways o fhow we can do this safely.
They are totally for the Flags/Flag Waving on the concourse idea and more detail will be discussed Friday with a view to this going ahead almost immediately given the appropriate Funds can be secured.
With regards to Fund raising a few things were brought up on the night such as :-
Bucket collections at games
Advertising with donations via website (Anyone wanting their Haircut remember there's no better place than www.elainestewart.co.uk/ at 1 College Avenue Off Library Street Phone 01942.323003! Just mention the Flag Website www.wiganflag.co.uk & you will receive a 10% discount )
Selling Merchandise (Pemps, Expect a call soon, I'm sure we can work out a deal! ) such as designs that are on the flags or we could even go with Twosevezero's idea of "I'm in The Regiment - The Erection Section!". Or "I've Donated towards the Erection!".
Plus many other ideas to swell the funds.
The whole purpose of the fund raising is to help branch out into other ideas such as The scarf's etc. As mentioned this was quickly discussed with Simon and he/the club were totally for it, it just needs the discussion over the Funds to do such a venture.
The club have had the idea for the last couple of years to do the Plastic cards in the Stand with the fans raising them to reveal a Motif/words for the last couple of years but "The Regiment" thought that the Scarfs were a Better more viable option and maybe the club could go into it with us in a Joint Venture?
Updates on all of the above to follow. If there are any questions you would like me to ask at the meeting please let me know via PM (And keep them clean & I'm not asking about Weetabix & Disabled Parking etc! )
Don't forget any donations will be greatfully received! Via the website & Paypal and/or contacting myself/21-12 or Jimmy birts lives on!
Many Thanks
Andy

How close are we to buying the Formby Flag?
Maybe we can do a bit of "begging" today in the pubs pre match. I'll give you a call when we get there to let you know where we are.

I certainly think it's a good idea to drum up some support today, I'll give you a bell once were 15 mins or so away.
Cheers

| Thanks to a lad called Paul Burton who got in touch with me wanting to fund a flag in memory of his late father as they'd both attended Wigan games together for years, father & son. He paid for this himself.
A tribute to our spritual home and in particular the most famous of nights at the old place
Cheers Paul

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

29281_1270406980.jpg When Maurice sold me to Leeds something changed, it just not the same, the passion inside me just wasn’t the same as running out at Central park for my hometown club.
We need a change of culture here; we don’t want to be just happy with playing ok on Saturday at St Helens.
Ill make sure that from now on things will change, that players will be under pressure and will train a lot harder than they have before.

| That "Do I love you" flag is magic. I'd say the Wigan : Northern Soul connection is a very strong one. Google will tell you that if you're not already aware of it.
I went to see Cemetery Junction after the Sheffield match. "Do I love you" features in that with some Northern Soul dancing.
