| The key to any sallary capped sport is getting value for money and whilst I can only speculate on wages I would predict some of our bigger earners are simply not providing value for money.
Williams is a clear one, very mediocre despite the hype. Hopefully our new coach can turn around his career that is quickly unravelling.
Tomkins, ok playing well this year in the main but again is he playing to a marquee level? Not in my opinion.
Farrell, one of our senior players and will surely be on a good wage, simply for me the very defenition of average for a few years now.
Joel Tomkins, ok he is going but another who will be on a big wage and could be described as average at best.
That is a massive percentage of cap money tied up in some massively underperforming players.
It looks like this is being addressed by the club but it will be a slow process phasing out or restructuring the pay scales at the club.

I totally agree with all of this. It really comes to something when some of the most stand-out performances we've seen all year have come from our kids, or from our semi-retired skipper.
But in this regard, it's difficult not to see the real fault lying with the coaching staff, who ought to be well on top of this sort of thing. GW's absence from games that mattered during the World Cup showed what Wayne Bennett's approach would have been.

We bought him on a 1 year contract to cover for the injured Tomkins who we knew would be out until June that year. Let’s be honest, he exceeded expectations, hence he was given an extended contract. He’s not as good as Tomkins at fullback although good cover.

I don’t think Escare did exceed expectations to be honest.
He’s shown many times for Catalans that he can be a fine full back and can cause real problems for defences with his speed.
That was the reason I thought we had signed him.

Fair enough mate but I think the majority would say he’d exceeded expectations. He performed consistently well at a high level for us but couldn’t get a game for Catalan. I’m fairly sure if he’d played for Catalan the way he’d played for us he’d have kept his place in the side.

He met my expectations - exciting attacking FB who can't defend for toffee.

| Escare became available due to off field issues. After a good initial impact his form dropped off mainly due to the company he was keeping off the field.
Catalan wanted to retain him but he understood he needed to get away from the circle of friends he was keeping if he was going to make something of his rugby career.
Given recent events ironic he ended up with us.

| Regarding George being on too much money, just ask your self one question would you have been happy had he gone to Warrington when they offered him a kings ransom??? What that did was force us to inrease his deal to keep him. I am certain wigan would have been bagged on here if he had left. He has been absolute rubbish for 3 weeks but certainly not on his own.

Totally agree and he’s had a lot more stick than he deserves. We all know his form hasn’t been great but most of our tries on that left edge start with him. Either a burst of speed to drag in a defender or a great pass to get the centre or winger away. He’s a very good player and that’s why went went balls out to keep him. His form will come back and there’ll be a few on here with egg on their face when it does.

| I found watching Williams in the last 15/20 mins at Wakefield both very interesting and frustrating. The shackles finally off with nothing to lose and he was looking like the top class player he is again. He was testing the line, committing people and it was creating space for others all over the place. Now why we have to be out of the game for that freedom to come is down to either him or down to him being shackled by the tactics.
Williams owes Wane a lot for showing faith in him and giving him a starting berth when not many would have but I can’t help feel he’ll ‘potentially’ benefit more then most from a parting of the ways. I’m not saying I’d want Daryl Powell here but I’d love to see what a coach like Powell who lets his halfbacks play could get out of him.

I agree with this, after half time Williams was playing both sides of the pitch and looked dangerous. Hopefully this is the way we will go from here as he undoubtedly has the quality to be our most creative influence, lets just let him play whats in front of him and see where we end up. Were still a clear second in the league and realistically the only side that can stop Saints winning the GF

Nowhere near big enough. Even if he bulks up, he wouldn't have the height to be properly big enough to play loose forward. The game is changing, now most teams just stick another prop at 13.

Totally agree. I can see Williams at 6/7, 9 and poss 1. Nothing else.
