Or option 3. Sit him down, work it all out and get him playing again as soon as possible. He's not the first and he won't be the last star player to fall out with his club only to be back playing for them a week later. Sport is littered with them with Wayne Rooney being the most recent.

| The truth is the longer you drag it out the harder a situation becomes, it would be in Wigans interest to sit everyone around a table and sort it out, whatever that may be.
Animosity grows with time.

Agreed. My post was meant as a last resort if he couldnt be convinced to stay. I certainly wouldnt loan him out to a SL club

| Quote: LewCharnock "Disappointed with Charnley tbh, his agent was touting him around clubs while he was in Aus and actually tried to arrange a meeting with a few clubs for Josh to attend while he was out there! The club are very annoyed as he wants to go NOW. Just so glad McIlorum has signed as he approached the club about the NRL's interest but was happy to stay here. It'll be interesting see how the Charnley situation pans out now.'"
Well if that is true and the consequence was him being dropped I think going public on it was an even bigger mistake. That just breeds animosity and once that sets in it is very hard to recover the situation.
While the two players may have approached this differently (or in Charnley's case it would seem his agent has set the ball rolling as agents do unfortunately) I don't actually see a great deal of difference in what either of them did.
If Charnley wanted an upgraded contract and was happy to stay with one I would not blame [ihim[/i if his [iagent[/i has handled this badly. If he just wanted to leave that is different and we are back to the same old situation of contracted player wanting away and how the club deals with it.

| Had Wane kept his mouth shut this thread probably doesn't exist.
Mistake IMO.

Agree. Wane should just have said that he wanted to give another player (Manfredi) a run. I'm not 100% on this but I believe it was Charnley on radio Manchester who said he had been dropped, which may have forced Wane to comment.

That article is nothing more than Barker bigging himself up

| I'm in two minds about this. If Shaun Wane doesn't talk to the media there will be no story. However if SW doesn't talk to the media there will be nothing in the media about Wigan at all. He is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.
Personally I prefer SWs dealings with the press to Madge's. But then they are totally different characters. I know that SW thinks of all the young lads as his - and he loves them all. In fact this is probably just his way of giving Josh some tough love.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Josh back in the team on Sunday - if he trains well this week.

Where/when did he say that?

Surely he is only damned if what he says causes problems?
I just think he is very direct and answers questions as put which is great if you are a journalist but sometimes discretion is called for.

Yes I agree. As I say he is like chalk and cheese compared with Madge. Perhaps somewhere in between would be ideal. SW gives good copy whereas Madge would treat every question like a live grenade.
I do love SW though, he wears his heart on his sleeve and his heart is most firmly with Wigan.

| I hope I'm wrong but this is starting to feel like when Carney left. His attitude and "injuries" in his last season were one of the most unprofessional episodes I'd seen from a player at that time.

| I just hope it's not another season-long "is you is, or is you ain't my baby" saga like last year.

Quite true. You can add the names Ellery Hanley and Billy Boston to name but two who come into that category.
