I'm really looking forward to McIlorum taking on the Aussies, he has that aggression and bloody mindedness that would get under the skins. You could make a case out for the other hookers but which of them would take them on and meet fire with fire time and time again. Or we could just play the nice guys again, roll over and have our bellies tickled.

| Quote: Famous "So you are prepared to give all this flexibility, with team selection and the what the definition of form is, to a Warrington player that has only played 8 games all season, filling in in 2 different positions as well. However at the same time you completely ignore players that have been outstanding in twice as many games and who have completely outplayed their opposite numbers in their set positions all season. Well done, that takes blinkered to a whole new level.'"
Take no notice of Horatio. He is known around the forums a being the village idiot, trolling on other teams forums and then banning everyone on their site.

| I am sick of fans of other teams making out some of our players are average just because we are playing so well. They seem to forget, or conveniently ignore, that we are playing so well and are dominant precisely because of these players.
McIlorum has been outstanding this season and offers more in a tense close match, where you dont get a quick play the ball, than Roby. Mossop has been great too and has a real physical presence and is a modern forward, not a plodder like Peacock etc. He is precisely the new generation of forward that we need to take on Australia. Goulding has been outstanding all year and is technically the best centre is Super League with a great all round game, the amount of tries he has created for Charnley with great runs and great timing of the pass/flick pass/basketball pass etc is unreal and he has created many tries out of nothing. Look at our right hand side this season and last, both in attack and defence, to see the contrast. Charnley is a great finisher and is a strong carrier of the ball. If we had a chance in the corner to win the game I would want Charnley there any day of the week before Briscoe, who has looked way out of his depth in every game he has played against Australia and New Zealand and who has never took his club form into internationals. The like of Tomkins and O'Loughlin goes without saying and there shouldnt even be a debate about these players.

| Quote: Horatio Yed "Forget the Wire hat, hang up your Wigan hat and think...this is England
I wouldn't come on here and go Charnley and McIlorum are Wiganers so i'm not going to pick them because i support Wire, this is England i want England to win not Warrington not Wigan, ENGLAND.
Club loyalties are just stupid.
Charnely ok lets go, he's playing in a team that creates almost double overlaps on every other play, you could have Ashley Gibson on the wing and he'd look fantastic, McIlorum plays in a very dominent pack, has players that don't get dominated in the tackle which makes him look better than he his, swap him and Roby around and you'd see how good a better hooker would be.'"
What planet are you living on?? The reason Wigan are creating so much room for their wingers is because the forwards, halves and centres are creating space for them. Forget about Ashley Gibson and maybe put Chris Riley on the Wigan wing.....im surprised you havnt got him in your England team
Everyone knows your precious Dire will be a middle of the table average team once Briers hangs up his mop. Ratchford wouldnt even get in the Wigan team, let alone in an England team. As for Hill he defines your team.....over the hill

| The Charnley vs Briscoe debate I can understand and tbh I think Briscoe is the better player at the minute but then so he should be with an extra 3 or 4 seasons superleague under his belt. I believe Charnley is a better player by a distance though then what either Briscoe or Hall were 18 months in to their first team careers.
As for McIlorum there is simply no questioning this lads form. He's come on leaps and bounds and whilst he is in a good side, he's playing a huge part in our season. I think there are specific players that suit test match rugby league and McIlorum is one of those. He's hard as nails, aggressive, niggly and could play 800 minutes let alone 80! He will rough any opposition up but the great thing about him is how his attacking play has developed. He's playing very intelligent rugby around the ruck and is a forwards dream at the minute.

I didn't say average, i said there are better players in that position
I pick Tomkins and Mossop, O'Loughlin even Hock who is hated by everyone bar Wigan because i can see under all the idiocy he's a bloody good rugby player but McIlorum? I didn't say he was average i said there was better and there are.
Henry Fa'afili was SL top try scorer in 2007, yet the common argument amongst most people including quite a few Wire supporters was it was the service rather than the man and you could have put anyone there and he would have scored, Charnley is not as good as Briscoe and i'll stick to that.
Any Aussie clubs looking to take Charnley to the NRL? Didn't think so
Yet Briscoe is on there radar at a less fashionable club?

| Obviously test-class players can't possibly be playing for mediocre clubs. It's amazing how Jonathan Thurston can even get a game.

| Well this thread descended into a little bit of silliness, but I think what most England fans would agree on is that some of the players currently in the Elite squad are past their best and that if England are going to improve in the future then younger players have to get their chance now.
If you look at the back row we have a genuine world class player in Ellis. He hasn't always performed brilliantly for England but he's proven that he's real quality.
The question is where is the obvious replacement in his mid 20's, approaching the peak of his career who is of similar ability that will step up and replace him when he retires?
The back row in the Knights squad includes Elliott Whitehead, Liam Farrell, Mark Flanagan, Chris Clarkson & Dale Ferguson, while Joe Westerman and Mike Lawrence could also make that squad.
I don't really see any potential world class players there which is worrying, but I do see players who could come in now and do a similar job to players like Wilkin & JJB who have been in and around the squad but rarely first choice.
The next players who to me really look like becoming world class back row forwards are John Bateman and Ben Currie, but it's a little too early to be sure.

Backrow is already the area we're weakest in, compared to Australia. On paper Ellis, Westwood, O'Loughlin, Hock looks a good combination, but then you look at Thaiday, Lewis, Gallen, Williams, Bird (Watmough, Myles, Stewart) and you realise not just their depth but that any of our boys would be lucky to get in their first-string team.
