Quote: Towns88 "Genuinely thought 18-4 flattered Wigan, Dixon missed 3 goals, Tansey a drop goal, plus for the first 20 or so, Wigan's goal line defence was very good & gave us nothing. Not sure if we weren't respected tonight or what, "let's fling the union chump in at short notice against them, its only Cas" (On another note, will you be paying him big bucks? Seems such a strange signing with the long list of young players coming through Wigan.) Gelling looks to be a better player then he was a year ago. I'm sure Wane will turn this "slump" around. He had some positive stuff to say about Cas at the end which was very respectful.'"

My understanding is due to rule changes coming in Powell's wages (or at least some) won't count on the salary cap for some time as he is a "new talent" to RL. It didn't used to apply to the likes of him but I believe it does now. It was for younger players I think.

If I am right look forward to more of the same from all clubs.

I'm not sure about the "let's fling the union chump in at short notice against them, its only Cas" It was more to do with the fact we are lacking numbers in the pack and had a lot of battered body's from Monday. He's got to play at some point so today was probably a good day to give him a run out.

Re the above. Just having a quick peruse for some perspective on the result because I've only read match reports, but didn't Wigan have Coley available instead of said union chump? Not saying they picked him out of disrespect, but I get the feeling that Coley would have been picked against a more fancied side.

"I'm sorry, but I would hope that we would beat Cas with a 1 day turnaround." An arrogant Wigan fan a few days before we stuffed them 18-4 at the JJB.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_42181.jpg

I get that, but then name him in the 19. Plus (not that im complaining) but what was up with Tomkins? A fair few South Sydney players backed up less then 48 hours after Origin for their side today, in ironically enough, similar conditions.

Sam had a bit of a knock. I'd guess if you got to be champions by finishing top he would have played, as you don't it was a case of protecting your assets. Sam picked up an injury at the end of last year ruling him out of the last play off game, which we ultimately lost as a result of a mistake from his understudy. We are 9 points clear of 5th place so top 4 in reality is in the bag. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sam and others not risked, rested or whatever you want to call it over the rest of the season.

Also ironically, when he is playing for South Sidney next year, he will be the one getting the rest in whilst his team mates are playing origin. (sorry, slight troll there icon_wink.gif )

Always cracks me when they talk about the "Wigan walk". Most other clubs crowds would not be noticed, even if they all moved together en mass. They can slip silently down their little rat holes and nobody notices.

Apparently we have not lost two in the trot since 2009, don't know if true. Chip paper now, move on.

Quote: raceman "Totally agree on that one and said exactly the same when your score was announced at the John Smiths Stadium. We had exactly the same problem playing Saints on a Monday night then away to Hull KR on the Friday, and Hull KR usually play their games on a Sunday, wonder why they played our game on the Friday??? And our MD asked Hull KR if we could change the game to Sunday, HKR refused.
Think the RFL should get involved and say anybody playing on a Monday shouldn't have to play on the following Friday.'"

I suggest you check your facts. The Hull KR v Huddersfield Giants game was scheduled for Friday 7th June in fixture list released by the RFL.

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled. For 27 - 0 you get a trophy For 75 - 0 you get sod all. Wigan had eight in a row Saints have five in a row:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_3076.jpg

Yesterday morning I watched Souths v Canberra and it was lashing down. Ray Warren and Phil Gould made the point about about playing "wet weather football".
"Get to the end of your sets and get a good kick in"

The first half at Wigan last night and that was exactly what was needed. Cas did it very well, but Wigan couldn't hold the ball for more than three tackles (I'd have loved to have seen the Phil Clarke stats style tables)

Too hold out against so much possession in that first thirty minutes was a good effort, but the two tries we gave away in the last ten were very poor, and then Pats knock on over the line just added injury to insult.

Because we turned so much ball over it meant we had even less in the half full tank.

Then in the second half our kicking game (particularly Blake Green) wasn't good enough. The better and fresher side won on the night, Cas got their tactics and application sopot on, and well done to them.

I don't understand why we didn't switch the game to Sunday though, we saw what happened to Huddersfield at HKR.

Anyway a bad night at the office, let's see what we are made of next week.
