Agreed. Inexperience leading to the DG attempt being taken straight from the late scrum ultimately cost us at least a point. An older wiser team would have taken a couple of tackles to eat up the clock before going for it. That way whether it goes over or not there would have been no time for a response. Still a great performance though from the team and they will learn from what happened late on.

This. Naive from Powell to go for the drop goal so early in the set but that shouldn't take anything away from what was an excellent performance from a very young team.

I said leaving the ground, that I am as proud tonight as I was last Saturday, immense from our kids. But lets not start blaming the ref or the clock, we had opportunities and didn't take them. These lads have a bright future at the club, and will take a lot from that defeat.

| Wane is claiming in post match conference (source: Observer phil wikinson twitter) the clubs timing was two minutes ahead. That may, or may not, explain the rushed drop goal attempt madness.
What isn't in doubt is that the clock displayed in the west stand (which is an official clock) was halted when Hull formed a rush scrum 50-60 out and remained on 5.03 for the full set in which Hull scored for 33-32. It only restarted when the try had been awarded and it started counting down again from 5.03.
Let's make it clear, that issue isn't Hull's fault and they played to the clock perfectly BUT its a shame if a cock up decided that result!

| as a hull fan i actually thought a draw would have been a fair result, but hey you take what you are given in this game. your younger players seem the part, wonder if there will be a few playing more regularly next season?
andy powell also made a bit of a name for himself

Dunno but even if Child didn't its common sense to put it back on themselves surely.

My thoughts exactly. The clock was showing 1:22 when we went for the drop ( I checked) after packing down quickly. There was no rush with 1:22 remaining so I didn't understand why he went for it on the 1st.

Why is it naive if he thinks there is no time left? I was furious with him at the time but then I remembered the clock stopping. I noted the clock was on 1:22 when he kicked it so that would have been 22 secs left.
Why they wouldn't know the difference in time I don't know but there was certainly a time keeping screw up.

| But if the "official" clock is showing 1:22 why rush the drop goal ?
Surely the captain can / could ask the ref at the scrum to confirm the time left?
inexperiance maybe?
Just be proud you have such great strength in depth...

No idea but I don't expect the players to be looking up at the corner of the west stand. Never mind that though things like this should not happen.

I am very pleased with the way it went. For 10 mins I thought we were on for a drubbing but they showed more variation on attack than the 1st team has done for most of the season!

He got the instruction from the sideline to drop the goal early and so don't be harsh on Powell.

Exactly my thoughts. Started off the night not expecting much & ended up being one of the better games of the season in entertainment terms, and definitely more variety in attack than the usual cross field kick every 6th tackle at their end. Just a shame at the end as they deserved a point.
To be fair to Hull though, despite the momentum being hugely in our favour mid second half, and them having a short period where they started knocking on like Saturday, they pulled it back well. Largely through spotting that Burgess kept getting isolated on his wing. 3 of their tries were almost identical.
